What's The Buzz?!?

A week at a glance...
Wow- who would have thought our short week last week could have been so eventful!?! Thank goodness for long weekends to recover :) Although the OCEA conference wasn't what we expected, I hope that you were able to find something productive and positive to improve your teaching strategies. I did enjoy spending time with all of you and getting some time outside of school to enjoy each other's company.
This week begins the crazy roller coaster to Christmas vacation.. Buckle up :)
- This Thursday we will celebrate an all school Thanksgiving dinner at 11:30 am. Colleen has been generous enough to work on a schedule for that day to ensure that everyone's class and recess needs are met. We will send this out shortly. Thanks, Colleen!
- Please remember to use the Google Doc Spreadsheet that Shelly has provided to let us know when you will administer your testlets.
- Math Night, Tuesday, November 17, is canceled. If you would like to use any of the activities that our math teachers created in your classroom this week please let me know and I will give you the appropriate copies and materials. Thanks to Mary Alice, Terri, and Thomas for the work they did in preparation for this event. We hope that their efforts will be utilized for our families in the future.
- Please tear off the back cover of the program booklet you received at the OCEA conference and put it in my mailbox. There are slots to write down which sessions you attended. I will send them in as a group this Friday so that you receive the appropriate CEU credit.
- This Thursday's folder will contain a flyer for a reading contest that will be held on each floor of the building and is sponsored by the Literacy Committee. Students will record how many pages they read per week and volunteers of the Literacy Committee will record and tally pages and pick a number of winners over a 4 week period. Please encourage your students to read in and out of school and participate in this fun reading contest!
- Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17, Student Council students will be sending out a one call detailing a canned food challenge between the Junior High and Primary buildings. The side of the building that brings in the most cans/non-perishables by Thursday morning will receive a jeans day. This includes teachers too- so raid your cabinets :)
- AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE: now that CYO practices have begun and many people are in the building, please ensure that students are NOT in the building after 3:30. They either need to be accounted for in After Care or in the gym practicing. If a student stops by your room please check where they are supposed to be and have them report to the appropriate area.
- A big thanks goes out to Carly for all of the work she has done so far to plan for our Christmas festivities! All faculty and staff of SFDS are welcome- just RSVP to the invite Carly sent out last week! This promises to be a fun evening with new traditions... can't wait to see all of you there.
Enjoy the week, each other, and your students!
5 Minutes for Faith
I think we can all agree that Todd Whitaker's presentation at the OCEA convention was the highlight. He mentioned the educational benefits for educators who use Twitter to gain ideas, advice, and collegial support. I personally participate in a number of conversation threads that I find to be very worthy of my time. Below is the link to Twitter. Please feel free to create your own accounts and use the search bar to find topics that interest you. If you find a good one- please share :)
https://twitter.com/?lang=enTodd's Twitter handle is @ToddWhitaker and he participates in a number of talks on different topics throughout the week!
