From the Principal...
January 7th, 2022
Dear Westbrook Families,
Happy New Year! It is wonderful to be back in the building with our students and staff. Students have done an excellent job jumping right back into the routines and school expectations. We are looking forward to an exciting 2022 full of learning!
Next week we will start our winter benchmark assessments for kindergarteners and first graders. Students will be working one-on-one with their teacher or a member of the benchmarking team to assess skills in reading and math. Grade-level teams use assessment data to ensure core instruction meets the needs of our students. We identify students needing additional support through interventions, and we review progress towards grade-level academic goals in reading and math. The results of these assessments are for internal problem-solving. However, we will notify families if their child qualifies for a math or reading intervention.
As I shared earlier this week, the fire alarm went off on Monday. The alarm company, Johnson Controls, will be coming to Westbrook to install new smoke detectors and fire alarm pulls. We are hopeful this will take place in the next few weeks. Students travel to specials and lunch with coats, gloves, and hats.
On Friday, January 14th, we will have half-day attendance for students throughout the District. Only first-grade students will attend from 9:20 AM to 12:20 PM at Westbrook. Please note the different dismissal times for our bussers and walkers. First-grade students will not need to bring lunch on these days. Our Kids’ Corner program will only be available to first-grade students from 7:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Please make sure to inform your private daycare providers of this variance in the schedule. Circle of Friends and Kindergarten students will not attend school on Friday, January 14th.
For your Children,
Danielle Crandall

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information
Dear Parents,
District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. This information is important to have on file as students who are fully vaccinated (2 weeks post 2nd dose) do not need to quarantine if identified as a close contact (per IDPH guidelines) and remain asymptomatic. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose.
Thank you,
Julie Tworek, RN

A huge thank you to those who have stopped in to check for lost items! We have reunited many coats, hats and water bottles with their owners.
A friendly reminder to label all items your child brings to school.
Please come to the office to sign in if you would like to check.
