Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
Our Botsford community gathered together today for a den lesson centered around awareness of "Upstander" behaviors.
What is an upstander?
An “upstander” is someone who recognizes when something is wrong and acts to make it right. When an upstander sees or hears about someone being bullied, they speak up. Being an upstander is being a hero: we are standing up for what is right and doing our best to help support and protect someone who is being hurt.
Why teach upstander behaviors?
Upstanders can make peers stop, think, consider the consequences, and even move on. Upstanders can make a difference. They can be mobilized to step in and reduce bullying-that is if they are taught how. It’s up to us to show students safe ways to do so, support and believe them, and then acknowledge their courageous efforts
