Students Remaining Virtual
If a student is not participating in in-person learning, they will continue online in the Schoology platform by accessing the same content as those students meeting face to face. At the direction of teachers, Virtual Student may be able to participate in some whole group instruction through Google Meets, viewing screencasts, video instruction, or completing independent activities via Schoology on Mondays - Thursdays. However, Fridays will be the day when teachers dedicate time to provide interactive learning with Virtual Students. Teachers are able to check Virtual Students’ progress in multiple ways such as Google Meets, email communication, or progress monitoring in Schoology. Please know that Fairlead Academy teachers have a number of instructional options available to them and are mastering how best to use the tools provided to facilitate learning for all of their students.
Preparing for In-Person Classes
1. Face Masks are required. They must be worn covering the student's nose and mouth. (NO neck gaiters)
2. Laptops must be brought to school every day that the student attends in person classes. They should also bring the laptop cord so that the device can be charged during the school day. If a student does not have a laptop that can be brought to school, they can contact Fairlead Academy for assistance.
3. The Sharing of personal items is discouraged. in order to limit the amount of close personal contact by students, please make sure to bring your own pens, pencils, paper, tissues, hand sanitizer, or any other supplies needed for successful participation in classroom activities.
4. Social Distancing is a must. Students will be encouraged by ALL staff members to maintain social distance in classrooms and when transitioning in the hallways.
5. Students will have to comply with all assigned seating requirements on buses, in classrooms and in the cafeteria. These requirements help to document students locations, to ensure that they are safely separated.
Get to Know Us!! - Fairlead Teacher Feature
Ms. Labor - Spectacular Science Teacher
Ms. Webb - Stellar Science Teacher
Hello!! I’m Ms. Webb. I was born into a Navy family and moved all over the place as a kid. In total, I have lived in 7 states, 2 countries (not counties), 15 different houses, and I’ve been to 11 different schools, including colleges. My parents finally settled down in St. Mary’s and I graduated from Leonardtown High School. I then attended St. Andrews University in North Carolina, where I got my bachelor’s degree and St. George's University in Grenada, where I recently finished my master’s degree in public health. I am currently in pursuit of a doctoral degree in public health through Walden University, which would be my 12th school I have attended. I recently got married and live with my husband, our 2 dogs, and cat.
This is my 3rd year teaching and my 3rd year at Fairlead Academy. Teaching was not always my intended path, but I fell in love with it as a substitute and have worked hard for my certification and to prove myself in the field. I love coming into work and seeing all of my students' faces, they make me laugh and never cease to amaze me. I love that I never have the same day twice and I especially miss being able to talk with students face to face! Can't wait to have everyone back in my classroom!

Students, Are You Shy? Are You Saying NO to Video?
Online learning has been challenging for both students and teachers. And our teachers really want to respect their students' choices and comfort levels on video. Your teachers, however, would really like the opportunity to get to know you and associate names and faces. It's hard to do that when a student's video is turned off. Can you imagine teaching a class and looking at a bunch of little black boxes on a screen? This is especially challenging when you are used to teaching a room filled with students.
So, the next time you take a really attractive selfie, or you make a Bitmoji that you find fun (that is appropriate), post it in your profile to give your teachers an idea of who they are working with. Your teachers will appreciate you for it!
