Advisory Update

What is Advisory and what are your students working on?

What is Advisory?

Advisory is a required course for all Full Time BU students and is worth both credits and a grade.

BVSD school counselors are charged to deliver curriculum that meets the national counseling standards for academic, career, and personal/social development (American School Counselor Association). BVSD is also mandated by the State of Colorado to have an active ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) on file for each student.

Here is a link to the ASCA National Standards

The brick and mortar schools in the district use a variety of different means to deliver this content including freshman seminar, 4 year advisory, class time, school wide meetings, individual meetings, etc.

BU has chosen to deliver this material through Advisory and individual ICAP meetings. The Advisory course is meant to take about 1 hour per week and will result in 5 credits earned at the end of the year. Each student will earn a grade (A,B,C,D,F) and it will be recorded on his/her transcript.
