Mrs. Codding's Class
Writer's Workshop
We have been writing non fiction papers in writer's workshop this week. We have read non fiction books, gathered facts and written down what we know about the topic. We will continue writing non fiction next week!
Math
We have been working on subtraction this week. We have talked and used chips to show how to do take away problems and have begun to write these problems!
Reading
We finished our non fiction reading unit in reader's workshop. We have been working on reading books on our level. This means being able to read almost all the words in the books well, sound out the hard words, use picture clues to gather information, and know what the books was about when we are done reading the books. At this point in time your child should be reading on a Level C. If you go to your local library, you can check out books from the leveled books section. Start with Level C. If this seems too hard for you kiddo, go down to B and work your way up. If it is too easy, move up a level or two. On your child's last report card it has the exact level your child was on in December written on it. Your Report Card in March will have your child's most recent reading level listed in the comment section. At any time, I can tell you what level your child is on if you want to know just email me. Pleas use the library as a resource to find leveled books for you child to practice reading at home!!
NWEA
We took our final NWEA test this week. The kids did great! They worked super hard and listened carefully to the questions! I am super proud of the hard work they put into the tests this week!
Plants
We are bringing home the plants we have been growing in the classroom. We have some really goo sprouts. Have your kiddo show you the roots of their plants, the stem and the leaves! These are great seedlings that you can take out of the glove and plant them into your garden! Se if they grow even more!
STEM
We did a STEM activity with our 3rd graders today! We made a rainbow out of pipe cleaners and then checked to see if the "pot of gold" could sit on top!
Student Led Conferences
Thank you to everyone who was able to come to school for student led conferences! Your kiddos were super excited to show you everything they have been working on!
