Learning Happening in ELA...
We have been hard at work in ELA, establishing our classroom literacy expectations and beginning building our personal narrative skills. Mini-lessons and modeling have been key to developing students understanding of the development of a powerful personal narrative.
Below, you will find a list of the lessons and topics we have been exploring together already. Students are showing amazing skills and determination in their daily writing and focused daily reading!
- Reading and writing documents and note-taking management (Notability)
- Book Tasting-Books are highlighted through "first chapter" readings, book talks, read aloud, and book trailers!
- Exploring qualities of a good writing partner
- Practicing what an engaged writer looks like
- Writing and reading workshop- Learning what a teacher and student will be responsible for each day as we work during class!
- Creating a personal map as a strategy to generate ideas for small moment stories.
- Learning how to write powerful personal narratives.
- Strategies for generating ideas for those small moment stories.
*Please ask your child to share what they are working on in class each week! It is a great way to understand and guide discussion about school!

The Importance Of Reading

READING LOG PADLET:
In ELA, students will be logging their reading on a class Padlet. Directions and links to our class Padlet can be found in Schoology. We have reviewed and completed the first Padlet entry together in class. After our first entry, students will be responsible for keeping their Padlet up to date to reflect the book that they are currently reading.
We have an incredible classroom library and school library that we will use to make selections but you may also like to visit the New Albany public library. Students may exchange their books at eagle period in our school library.
