SLCS District Update

Note From The Superintendent

Greetings SLCS Families and Staff Members,

I had the privilege this week of attending the National Honor Society inductions for both high schools. Each of the new inductees have excelled thus far in their high school career in the areas of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Again, I want to congratulate these students and their families on achieving this noteworthy accomplishment. I also want to remind them of their continued responsibility to strive to maintain excellence in these four areas. In fact, all students should be challenged each day in these four areas. In doing so, you will serve yourself, your family, and your community in a worthwhile and meaningful way.

As you may be aware, October is National Principals Month. As you do know, we have a tremendous team of building administrators in our District. They work tirelessly each day to lead their respective school communities. Each one is very much a team player and contributes to the greater good of the District. They are also strong advocates for their individual school, students, staff members, and parents. They truly value the trust and confidence you have in them to serve the best interest of your children. Please take a moment over the course of this month to let your building administrators know how much you appreciate them.

Also, the District has partnered with an organization, Celebrate Hope, and is providing parent seminars throughout the course of the school year. Please see the “Celebrate Hope” section below for event details and registration information. The first session is scheduled for Monday, October 11 at SLHS.

SLCS Proud!

Secondary Families

Our district’s Administrative Regulations outline the requirements for a student in our district to earn a high school diploma. Normally, participation in the Michigan Merit Exam (or MME), which includes the SAT, is a graduation requirement. As this assessment was not mandated by the State of Michigan last school year, we are again adjusting our requirements. For the graduating class of 2022, completion of the MME/SAT will not be required for graduation.

At this time, MME completion is still required for the graduating classes of 2023 and beyond.
