Daily Admin Update
Day 15
I miss you dear friends.
I hope that you are doing well and staying healthy. In keeping up with emails and news I am predicting that we will not be returning to school before May if we do this school year. I will revisit the silver lining on this at least this is happening during period of construction and their work is continuing. I have the construction meeting today where they will update me on door frames, wireless access points or waps, elevator shafts and stucco. I will make sure to report out anything exciting from the meeting.
Are you a family that could use some support, emotional, financial or otherwise? We stand together strong as a community during challenging and good times. Please reach out to me today and let me know what we can do to support you.
SDCCS STRONG!
“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” -Brené Brown
I am so excited about this!
Launching on Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m. ET, the beloved country singer and international icon will put on her perfectly tailored jammies and read a book from her Imagination Library, a literacy program started by the singer in 1995 that delivers books to children in her home state of Tennessee and beyond. According to Rolling Stone, Dolly’s reading series will last for ten weeks and feature books “carefully chosen for their appropriate content at this moment in time.”
The first book? The Little Engine That Could, by Watty Piper. You’ll probably have to read a second book immediately after Dolly’s video to explain why you had to fight back tears the entire time, but your kids will definitely be up for it.
What will the post-coronavirus future look like?
Some scholars and thinkers shared their thoughts on what a post-coronavirus world will look like in the San Diego Union-Tribune. They predict:
- A renewed investment in public health infrastructure and rediscovery of the “fact that we do need the government.”
- Increased health consciousness, with people paying more attention to washing their hands and covering their coughs.
- Increased appreciation for teachers and caregivers.
- Improved gender equality as men working from home “get a fuller picture of the child-care responsibilities” normally handled by women.
I know you have heard it before, stay home, wash your hands and don't touch your face.
The United States already has the highest number of reported infections in the world, with 160,000, and has yet to fully ramp up testing, meaning that many cases are going undetected.
As the death toll ticked past 3,000 on Tuesday, the nation was set to overtake that of China, where 3,305 people have reportedly succumbed to the virus, although the Chinese figures are coming under increasing scrutiny.
Nations across Europe also continue to see a steady rise in new infections and deaths. France has surged past 3,000 fatalities. And the virus has ravaged Italy and Spain — where the countries’ combined death toll approached 20,000, roughly half the global total — demonstrating the high price nations can pay if the virus outstrips the capacity of a nation’s health care system.
In the United States, the outbreak in New York remains the largest in the nation, with more than 1,200 deaths, and is weeks away from its apex, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo warned. More than 250 coronavirus patients died between Sunday and Monday, and the governor said that number could ultimately reach 800 a day.
Brené on Comparative Suffering, the 50/50 Myth, and Settling the Ball
Brené is one of my favorite authors (if you have some time I would really recommend Dare To Lead ) I have included a link below that includes her latest podcast. I would greatly recommend it!
