Bremerton School District’s “Back-to-Buildings” Plan

The Bremerton School District has been carefully planning and preparing to bring students back to our school buildings when it is safe to do so. Our top priority has, and will continue to be, the health and safety of students and staff.


We are planning to have elementary students* return to school for face-to-face learning in two phases:


  • November 9: preschool - 2nd grades
  • November 30: 3rd - 5th grades


Secondary students (grades 6-12) will remain in Connected Learning (online only) for now. We will continue to assess the possibility of transitioning to face-to-face learning for secondary students for second semester which starts February 1st.


Please note: These dates are subject to change based on local COVID-19 transmission rates. Decisions to have students return to buildings will be based on the science related to COVID-19 cases. We will continue to work with the Kitsap Public Health District to monitor and assess our local COVID-19 situation.


*This does not include students enrolled in Home Link, West Hills Restorative School, the Flexible Learning Pathway, or families who choose to have their student remain in Connected Learning (online).

Elementary students will attend half-days, four days each week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)


  • Wednesday will continue as an asynchronous learning day.

  • Group A 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

  • Group B: 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

School meals & transportation

The District will provide meals and bus transportation for elementary students.


  • Group A students will eat breakfast in the classroom and get a “grab-n-go” lunch to take home.

  • Group B students will eat lunch in the classroom, and get a “grab-n-go” breakfast to take home for the next day.

  • Bus transportation will be provided for both Group A and Group B

What's next

In order to plan, we need all elementary parents to let us know if they’d like their child(ren) to return to school for face-to-face learning in November, or if they plan to keep their child(ren) home and continue with Connected Learning.


We acknowledge things may change and it may be difficult to make a choice now. However, in order to divide up classes so we can meet social distancing requirements, we need to collect updated information from families ASAP. Tomorrow, elementary families will be receiving a link to an online form from their elementary teachers and we ask that families complete this form by Wednesday, October 14.


IMPORTANT: Due to the complexity of scheduling and need to “cohort” students for health and safety, at this time we do not anticipate being able to honor requests from families for their preferred group (A or B). We will make every effort to ensure that siblings are placed in the same A or B group. Schools will be notifying families of their child’s group assignment once we have collected this important information from our families.

The Peninsula Community Health Services school-based health clinic located at Mountain View Middle School is open Mon and Wed, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to provide primary medical care, behavioral health services and substance use counseling this school year.
