Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
February 14, 2020

On Monday, February 17, 2020 the River Bend School District will be utilizing an e-learning/home-based learning day. This will be used as the makeup day from the school cancellation on January 15. As previously noted in Superintendent Hogue’s letter, the pilot of the e-learning/home-based learning day from last year was well received by students and parents alike.
Please keep in mind that while the day is called an e-learning day in most formats, that does not necessarily mean that student learning will only occur in electronic formats. While some activities may require electronic devices, many others (especially at the elementary level) do not. Thus, the phrase “home-based learning” becomes very relevant in this case.
All teachers from preschool through fifth grade will be sending home instructions for students regarding their learning on this day. Please make sure to check their bags/folders and contact the respective teacher if you have any questions. Modifications and accommodations to activities will be made by the special education staff and sent home with those students as well.
All teachers will be available from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, February 17 by email. If you or your students have any questions regarding the e-learning/home-based learning lessons, they are available to answer them in that timeframe.

Help your child learn to problem solve
Most of the time when kids (and adults) feel their emotions are understood and accepted, the feelings lose their charge and begin to dissipate. This leaves an opening for problem solving. Sometimes kids can do this themselves. Sometimes they need your help to brainstorm. Resist the urge to handle the problem for them unless they ask you to. This gives your child the message that you don't have confidence in his ability to handle it himself.
