SEPTEMBER FAMILY NEWSLETTER

What's Been Happening?

Hello awesome Astro families, we had a great start to the school year and the first 3.5 weeks have really flown by. Students and teachers are settling in, getting to know each other, and academics are in full swing. I walk through classrooms daily and everyone is working hard and doing amazing things. I wish we could get the weather to cooperate and cool down for us a bit, but that's how August in the desert is!

Teachers have been hard at work assessing students reading and math aptitudes. This will give them valuable baseline data and allow them to meet the needs of every student in the class. If you are familiar with our MTSS (mult-tiered systems of supports), all students receive tier 1 instruction in their classroom. If a student needs more support in academics or behavior, they will move to a higher level of support at tier two, and in rare cases, tier 3. Please refer to the TUSD model on the district webpage, and our parent/student handbook I sent out before school started.

Thank you all for coming out to our Open House the last week of August. It was great seeing all of you and showing your support for your child's school. We are a team in your child's education, and it means a lot to us!

School Start and End Times/Traffic

Please remember, school starts at 8:20. Please do not drop your students off before 7:45 as we have no campus monitors on site until that time. Students that are dropped off before this are unsupervised and we cannot be responsible for something that might happen.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, school ends at 2:30 for K-5 and 3:15 for 6-8. On Wednesday, school ends one hour earlier for teacher PD and planning. Please pick your students up promptly as our monitors leave soon after school ends each day.

Please do not park in the staff parking lot. Teachers often arrive at 8:00 and spots have been filled not allowing them to park. Please use the dirt area in front of the lot and across the street. Please drive slowly near the school and in the front pick-up loop as well.

CAMPUS SECURITY

Families, please remember that Borman is a secure campus with a single point of entry - the front office. If you want to walk your child to their classroom or visit for any reason, you need to sign in at the office and get a visitor's badge. We also encourage you to volunteer!

From the Health Office

Dear Parents,

A friendly reminder that it is the law in Arizona that all students have to have a complete immunization record on file. There are immunizations that come due at age 4 years and then again at 11 years. If you have not yet turned in a complete immunization record, please do so as soon as possible. Please don't hesitate to call the school nurse or health assistant during school hours if you have any questions regarding your child's immunizations.
