Safety Drills
Public Schools in Wisconsin are required to practice various safety drills throughout the school year. Fire, Tornado, and Lock Down Drills will be performed periodically during the year. Recently, your child may have reported that we practiced our first of two lockdown drills for the year. At times during the year, the local police and/or fire department may attend and observe our drills. Safety is our first priority. If you have any questions about our safety procedures, please reach out to Mrs. Davies.
Weather Related Closings
We are inching closer to winter! Last year we had several days where it was necessary to close school due to the weather. Hopefully, that won't be the case again this year. However, if the weather is unsafe for travel, parents will be notified via text message, email and phone usually well before 6:00 AM. Closures will also be broadcast on TV and Radio. There will also be a message on our website. If your phone number has changed since the beginning of the year, please contact Mrs. Smiley to update our records.
How Much Homework Should Your Child Have?
Parents often wonder how much homework can be expected each evening. A good rule of thumb is about 10 minutes x the student's grade level. For example: A child in 4th grade should have ABOUT 40 minutes/evening. Some students are able to work efficiently and complete the majority of their assignments during work time or study hall, requiring much less evening homework. Others, may work at a slower pace requiring slightly more homework time each evening. If you are concerned about the level of homework your child has, it is strongly recommended you reach out to the classroom teacher to discuss your concerns.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on November 9th from 12:30-7:00pm. Homeroom Teachers have emailed a sign up link to all parents. If you did not receive this link, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Specialists (PE, ART, Music) will have walk-in conferences. No appointment is necessary.
Infinite Campus
Last summer, parents were asked to create an Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account for online registration. The parent portal also allows you to monitor your child's grades, attendance, as well as request an absence if your child is sick. If you do not have a parent portal account, and would like one, please email Mrs. Davies for help setting this up. Ldavies@woodsschool.com
