District News:
Jeff Danner will direct MSVMA Honors Choir at the Michigan Music Conference
The wait is finally over. On Thursday afternoon, Jeff Danner will take the stage at DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids as director of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s Middle School Honors Choir.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers across the state of Michigan,” said Danner, who’s the secondary vocal music department chair for Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. “The 2-year wait due to COVID has made this all the more special, and now that it’s finally here it’s almost hard to believe!”
Danner is directing the MSVMA Soprano/Alto choir, which is composed of 115 middle school aged students from across the state. They’ll preform on Thursday, January 19, at 2 p.m.
This school year marks Danner’s twenty-fourth working with singers, choirs, and the performing arts programs at Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. During his time in the district, he has made an immense impact on his students and built a tradition of excellence. One of the main criteria for his selection as the MSVMA Honors Choir Director is that he must have received a large proportion of Excellence final determination at district or state festivals. Over the past nine years, he’s guided Sarah Banks Middle School choirs to the state festival eight times.
“Walled Lake Consolidated Schools has provided me a place to hone my craft for my whole career, and I’m so proud and humbled to represent our district in front of hundreds of parents and music educators from across the state,” said Danner. “I have been blessed to have supportive colleagues and admin who trust me and let me do what I love to do, to create unforgettable vocal experiences for our students, parents, and the community.”
Walled Lake Wild dominate weekend with 3 wins in 3 days
The Walled Lake Wild celebrated a perfect weekend on the ice with three wins in three days to hold onto first place in the Division 2 West.
The Wild hosted Northville on Friday night, when junior Lauren Fox stole the show. The 2022 first team all-state defenseman netted four goals with one assist to lead Walled Lake past the Mustangs, 8-3.
The Wild then headed to Bloomfield/Birmingham on Saturday, where they battled the West Division’s second place team in a thriller. Senior Lauren Willis played hero scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to lead Walled Lake to a 6-5 victory. They also picked up a new No. 1 fan that afternoon in Superintendent of Schools, Dr. John Bernia, who was in attendance with his daughter, Avery.
Willis and the Wild picked back up right where they left off on Sunday. The Walled Lake Central senior tallied five points on four goals and one assist to pace the Wild past Plymouth/Canton/Salem, 8-2, on Senior Day.
The Wild will take their six-game win streak up North this weekend for a tournament in Bay City. Walled Lake meets Washtenaw on Friday at 8:20 p.m., then faces off against Troy United on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Central, Western split basketball triple header
