MSC Visitor Procedures
MSC's entryway is now closed due to remodeling to modify how visitors enter the building. All visitors will need to enter through the doors adjacent to the parking lot. Visitors must call the office at 614-836-4957 (number is posted on the doors) and have an ID to enter the building. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience until our entryway is completed. Modifications will improve the overall level of security for students and staff.
Fun Fridays and Social Emotional Learning
News and Notes
Groveport Madison Human Needs - Groveport Madison Human Needs is providing Thanksgiving meals for those in need of assistance again this year. Meals are being provided to families living in the district or attending schools in the district. Contact Mr. Levy at joshua.levy@gocruisers.org with any questions or requests.
SEL Fun Fridays - Students are able to earn some relaxing time with friends each Friday during SEL time if they meet requirements set by their grade level teams. Students typically are required to finish a number of iReady lessons in both reading and math along with good behavior during the week. When the weather is nice, groups get outside, but on days when the weather is not cooperating, students stay inside and enjoy an assortment of fun activities where students can interact.
After School Groups - There are a number of after school groups for students to participate in at MSC. Current groups include Chess Club, Dungeons and Dragons, Photography Club, Study Hall, and Weightlifting Club. Students must get permission slips completed and turned in before being allowed to stay after school.
PBIS Rewards - Students are being rewarded PBIS points for following building expectations (being productive, being respectful, and being safe). These points can be used to make purchases from our school store. Students can easily access and track their accounts and points online. Be sure to ask your student about it!
iReady Update - 84% of all completed reading lessons were passed by our students last week while 90% of all completed math lessons were passed. Students continue to work hard. iReady lessons are completed during Focus classes (1st period).
Accelerated Reader (AR) - All students are provided time in Focus classes to read independently and are expected to maintain reading logs and pass comprehension quizzes after completing books. We believe this time dedicated to reading is very important, so please check in with your student about his/her reading log to see what they are reading! AR is used to help kids make as much growth as they can by simply reading
Free/Reduced Lunch - Parents are strongly encouraged to apply for free/reduced lunch. This must be done each year and does not carry over from year to year. Applications can be found here (https://www.gocruisers.org/PaySchools.aspx). Families who qualify for reduced lunches will be provided lunches at no cost as well. It is definitely worth the time to complete the application to see if you qualify.
Phones and other communication devices - Compliance with the phone policy has been terrific to this point. Thank you for the cooperation and support from home! The following is a summary of the policy:
Students are not permitted to use smartphones during the course of the day. Every morning students will be reminded that they are to turn their phones (airpods also) off and put them in their book bags. If a student is seen with a phone after this reminder, they will be directed to turn the phone in for the remainder of the day and returned at dismissal. violations will be handled in the following manner:
1st violation - detention
2nd violation - half day of alternative classroom (AC)
3rd violation - full day of alternative classroom (AC)
4th violation - out of school suspension (insubordination)
Students can request tom use their phone, but must do so before using it in the building. This approach helps to lessen distractions and issues while at school. Thank you in advance for your support with this policy.
Final Forms - Please complete all required forms Final Forms so we can have all required student information for this school year. Requests and links can be find your email.
Progress Book - Please check out the tutorials below to set up access to your students grades and assigned work. Parents can set up alerts to get notifications when students have missing work or earn grades that are subpar.
.Digital Hall Passes - MSC uses a digital hall pass system for students to request bathroom passes and other passes that require them to leave classrooms. This tool will also be used to track how many passes are used and how much class time is being missed.
