Reflections from Elder's Desk
After reading and listening to various stories about how schools handled the National Walkout Day on March 14th, I thought it would be advantageous for me to visit with our students and other administrators prior to the next National Walkout Day on April 20th. I am often asked, "Are we going to allow our students to walkout without being disciplined?" A decision has not been made as far as the repercussions of students walking out or what the seventeen minutes will entail. The students consistently shared how they wanted to be upbeat and honor the lives of the victims. Thus, we will listen and address the students’ concerns along the way and consult the advice from legal counsel moving forward.
Continue to be cognizant of the stressors in our students’ lives. During these stressful moments are when students are the most vulnerable. Any abnormal behavior should be reported to an administrator immediately. It has been an incredible year so continue pushing forward and finish strong!
Thank you for all you do to make coming to work such a pleasure for all of us who are privileged to work here. Expect greatness every day.
