MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
9th Edition November 11, 2016
State-Bound...
Looking forward, our Marian students will be showcasing their talents all over the state! Today, our amazing Volleyball team will be playing in the Class 3A state semifinals at Redbird Arena. They will play again tomorrow (Saturday, 11/12) afternoon, time TBD by semifinal results! Check out the Northwest Herald article detailing the several All-Conference selections for this team! We wish them all the best, and thank them all for representing our beloved school so well on and off the court. Can't make the games? Click here for live-streaming of the tournament!
Building Future Leaders...
Our dedicated National Honor Society members have dedicated countless hours to host the annual Rise Up conference tomorrow here at Marian. The Rise Up conference is dedicated to leadership development for all middle school students throughout the McHenry County area. The day is filled with fun and interactive activities that teach leadership skills, teamwork, goal-setting, and tips to stop bullying in schools, and how to avoid negative peer pressure. The NHS Society has been hosting this well-attended event for seven years now, and many middle schoolers who attended are now responsible for planning this event as high schoolers! Please pray for our students and guests, that they all have an enriching, inspiring day!
Quarterfinal Showdown....
Tomorrow afternoon, our Varsity football team will be playing at Vernon Hills for the Class 5A Playoff quarterfinals at 1pm! Check out this great article highlighting Marian's 30-14 win over Hillcrest. Congratulations to all these athletes and coaches as they continually demonstrate grit, determination, and dedication!
Spiritual Reflection...
This coming week, many of our students will be participating in their spiritual retreats! Sophomores will be traveling to the Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry for their full-day retreat; seniors participate in their overnight retreat at the Bishop Lane Center in Rockford; and, juniors participate in their Kairos Retreat, also at the Bishop Lane Center. These retreats are often life-changing for many students, as they reflect on their faith and recommit themselves to developing their relationship with God and our beloved Church. With the societal demands and pressures bombarding us every day, these retreats, along with our continual devotion to spiritual growth throughout our curriculum, help nurture and fortify our souls. Please continue to pray for our participants, retreat leaders, and faculty advisers as they participate in this very important, reflective week.
Season Openers...
A special shout-out to our Fencing team as they lunge into their season at the Stevenson Invitationa; our Girls Basketball team tips-off at Jefferson Harvest Christian; Boys Basketball opens at Round Lake; and, Wrestling opens at Carmel. Good luck to all these athletes, and prayers for a successful, healthy season for all!
Making Music...
Congratulations to three members of Marian's music department for earning placements in the District 7 IMEA Music Festival which will take place Saturday, November 12th at Crystal Lake Central High School. Sarah Wilson will represent our school in band; Catherine O'Neill represents orchestra; and, Mallory Hill represents chorus. These students auditioned for this honor in early October to be a part of this highly anticipated festival, and will rehearse most of the day Saturday to perform with many other musicians from the northwest suburbs in a concert at 3:00 pm. Click here for more information about this wonderful experience for our student-musicians!
Future Hurricanes...
Finally, we are honored to once again host the 8th Grade Visit Day this coming Friday, November 18th. Our Marian Mentors will be leading all visiting 8th graders through several exciting activities, an interactive tour of our school and curriculum, as well as a free lunch in our cafeteria! Many of our 8th graders see this weekend as an exciting milestone in their final year before high school, and we couldn't be happier to provide these great events.
If you have friends or neighbors who are curious about what Marian has to offer their elementary or middle school-aged children, please invite them to our Open House on Sunday, November 20th from 1-3pm. Click here for a closer look at Marian Central! Not only will there be representatives from every academic department available to answer questions, but every co-curricular sport, club, and activity will be on display for future Hurricanes to explore!
