The Roadrunner
Ben Franklin Elementary School
August 2023
Parents, families, and students,
The 2023-2024 school year is right around the corner and we could not be more excited! I hope your summer was full of fun and excitement with family/friends. Things are going to look a little different when you come to the open house August 30 from
3:30-5:30pm. Here are a few of the things that have changed since June 2: New LED lights in all classrooms throughout the school. These new lights are dimmable and easier on the eyes than the old fluorescent lights and cost a lot less to power than the old ones too! New heating and air conditioning throughout the entire building that will be fully operational by the beginning of October! New carpet in the east ⅔ of the building along with freshly painted walls on the east side of the building! The memory boxes that were in the walls of the Early Childhood classrooms and Kindergarten classrooms have been replaced with reading benches which will be great for our Read Everyday (RED) events! We also have a few new staff members this year; Sarah Rose (Kindergarten), Jacob Siedschlag, Carmon Lindblad, and Mallory Rudningen (1st grade), Blessy Mullot (Autism), Hana Toward (3rd grade), Stacey Skarperud (Instructional Coach), Oluchi (Juliet) Nwachukwu and Jasmin Nogra (ECSE), Emily THompson (Math Interventionist), Jen Oakland (Secretary), Alyssa Donacki, and Brynn Hovde (Inclusion paras), Brittni Dengler, Lauren Griggs, and Isabelle Jarombek (ASD paras), Lisa Byron, Mandi Hayden, Sarah Jorgenson, Ashley Magnuson, and Melissa Storey (ECSE paras). We are very excited to welcome our new staff to the Ben Franklin family and know they will be a great addition to our school!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to email, call, or set up an appointment with my secretary! We look forward to seeing you all soon and look forward to accomplish great things this year.

As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, students at the Grand Forks Public Schools will be issued a student learning device. Kindergarten–2nd grade students will receive an iPad, while students in grades 3-12 will be issued a Chromebook.
With these digital tools comes a variety of information for our families. Please carefully review the two attachments for information on:
- the Acceptable Use Policy,
- Receiving, caring for, using, and returning the learning device,
- the Device Use Pledge,
- the Device Protection Plan (DPP)
We want to thank our Ben Franklin families for returning all devices last spring. We continue to appreciate your support as we work together to make the 2021-22 school year a success!
Please use My School Bucks site to pay for your child's Device insurance (for students in grades K-5) and Chromebook case (for students in grades 3-5).
