PK 4.3 weekly newsletter
This week we introduced our Clothes Study!
We've been having fun exploring the topic by noticing and comparing what we're wearing every day, looking through fashion magazines and making collages, sorting and classifying buttons and clothes according to the times or occasions that we wear them, building vocabulary words with blocks, had a fun shoe jumble in which everyone showed me, that they can be independent when it comes to put on their own shoes! Even finding out what was in my luggage turned out to be a wow experience! :D (FYI- I'm just going for the weekend, some kids panicked hahaha).
Our interest areas have changed a little bit too- now our Dramatic Play area is slowly turning into a store and kids have been practicing how to take care of clothes by sorting, hanging and folding them and in our Toys and Games area we had fun "sewing" some t-shirts!
As we study clothes, we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas.
At home, you can play an important role in our learning; so make sure to talk with your child about clothes. Examine the fabrics together and discuss how the clothes were made. Look at the labels to find out where the clothes were made and identify the fabric. Look at pictures from the past and note how the clothing differs from clothing today.
Objectives of the week:
Demonstrates knowledge of the alphabet
Demonstrates knowledge of print and its uses
Uses number concepts and operations
- Uses classification skills

Conscious Discipline: Commitment Check-ups (following last week's update)
"Making a commitment increases the chance of following through while also increasing self-regulation and confidence.
Success with a commitment means, “Hooray! I did it!” Difficulty with a commitment means, “Oops! I have an opportunity to try again next time!”
Success breeds success. If a child repeatedly has difficulty with commitments, help him refocus on creating commitments that are specific, realistic and stated in the positive. “I won’t be mean to anybody today,” isn’t specific, stated in the positive or doable for many children. “I’m going to go to the Safe Place when I feel frustrated,” is specific, stated in the positive and much more realistic."
