Principal Note
Parent Letters for 2021-2022 Classroom Placement
In planning for the upcoming school year, parents are invited to provide information that will assist us in the class placement process. Since every learner is unique, our goal is to pair each learner with an environment that maximizes his or her potential. Therefore, balancing classrooms based on gender, special needs or talents, learning styles, and personalities are all factored as we compile class lists. As you can imagine, this is a complex process and a very important one.
We welcome any information that you would like to provide about your student in order to assist us in making the best possible placement. Because of the many factors considered when putting a class roster together, requests for specific teachers will not be accepted. Clearly defining the needs of your child will be most helpful in making a good classroom assignment.
If you have information that will assist us in making a placement for your child, please forward that information to me in writing. You may wish to include the following types of information:
- Your child’s talents and needs
- The type of classroom environment that has been or will be most beneficial for your child
- Your child’s personality and learning style
Letters must be received by April 30, 2021 to receive consideration. Letters can be submitted through the Munhall main office, or through an email attachment at Jarrod.Buxton@d303.org.
Thank you for your assistance in this important matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 331-228-6637.
Elementary Intra-District Transfer Information
The window for Elementary Intra-District Transfer Requests opened on April 6th, and remains open through 4:00 on April 19th. A link to the request form can be found here: Elementary Intra-District Request Form Information. Be please the detailed information below from D303 Board Policy regarding Intra-District Transfers:
Transfers Within the District
A student's parent(s)/guardian(s) may request a transfer for their child to a District school other than the one assigned. Requests should be directed to the Superintendent or designee who will make the final decision. The provisions in this section have no applicability to transfers pursuant to the Unsafe School Choice Option covered in Board policy 4:170, Safety.
To be considered for a transfer, student(s) must first be registered in the District.
Elementary Schools:
All approvals for elementary school transfers approved under this policy for school years prior to the 2018-2019 school year are effective only through the end of the 2017-2018 school year and will be terminated upon the end of the 2017-2018 school year. Starting with the 2018-2019 school year, all elementary school students are to attend school in the attendance area to which they are assigned by the Superintendent or designee unless the student's parent/guardian applies for and is granted an intra-district transfer for the 2018-2019 school year consistent with this policy.
- An Intra-District Transfer Request Form must be submitted to the Superintendent or designee no sooner than 8:00am on the first Tuesday following Spring Break and no later than 4:00pm on the third Monday following Spring Break. The specific dates will be included on the Intra-District Transfer Request Form. The form must be submitted in the format and at the location indicated on the form in order to be considered as submitted. At the Administration's Discretion, an online form may be used instead of a paper form.
- Individual requests must be submitted for each student. Siblings are not guaranteed placement.
- The Administration may identify specific criteria for prioritizing student transfer requests.
- Administrative placement because of overcrowding in the best interest of the School District may also be directed by the Superintendent.
The Superintendent or designee will make the decision on any request and all decisions are final. Elementary class size will be the factor for consideration of approval. Approvals for elementary transfers will remain in effect for one school year. Elementary school intra-district transfer requests must be submitted annually. Students who are granted permission to attend a school outside of their assigned attendance area shall be responsible for their own transportation.
The above does not apply to Middle or High School attendance -- students will return to their assigned attendance area middle and high schools regardless of the elementary or middle school attended.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness
At this point, our 3rd-5th graders have participated in at least one unit in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. Each grade level participates in three English/Language Arts units and three Math units. We continue to spread the tests throughout the next two weeks. Classroom teachers will share the testing schedule so you are aware of testing dates and times.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Munhall Lip Sync - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the Lip Sync?
A. The Lip Sync is traditionally a PTO-sponsored event that gives Munhall students a chance to perform on the “big stage” in a fun, non-competitive environment. Groups choreograph and perform a two-minute lip sync to a song that fits the theme. Costumes and props are encouraged. Since we are in different times, we are still holding on to this 3 year tradition and doing it virtually.
Q. Who participates in the Lip Sync?
A. All Munhall students are welcome to participate.
Q. What is the theme this year?
A. “I Survived…Our Pandemic Playlist” Basically, it’s open to anything this year.
Q. Can my child do a Lip Sync alone?
A. Unfortunately, no. This is a “group” event. An act must have at least 3 participants. There is no limit to the number of performers in a group as long as you can socially distance.
Q. Can my child be in more than one Lip Sync Act?
A. Yes! Your child may participate with up to 3 different groups (ex. classroom act, Student Council, group of friends).
Q. Does it cost anything to participate in a Lip Sync act?
A. Nope! This year we do have “extras” that will support our PTO which in turn supports your student directly.
Q. I don’t know how to edit music. Is there someone who can do this for me?
A. Jaime is happy to edit your music for you if needed. Email her with your information such as: song title, artist, and if you know the specific 2 minute section of the song you’d like. Please note that songs will not be edited from YouTube. Songs must be available via iTunes or it must be provided in MP3 format.
Q. I still have questions about the Lip Sync. Who should I contact?
A. Last year 195 students participated in the Lip Sync. Ask around - friends, neighbors, and teachers - they’ll be a great source of information. Feel free to contact Jaime Sjogren with general questions and/or questions regarding music editing.
