Independent Study Projects

TAG students have independent study projects that have incremental deadlines. Please refer to the correct website for your student's grade level project. These projects will be wrapping up in the middle of April. Students have the opportunity to present their projects at the TAG Showcase at Stony Point High School on Tuesday, April 19 from 6-7pm. This will require additional time outside of class to create a display board since computers will not be available at the showcase.

What's coming up in Reading/Literature:

3rd grade is reading Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. It is the story of a young, wealthy girl from Mexico whose life changes instantly. Her mother is forced to move them to the United States to become migrant workers. Amazing story of overcoming hardship and the value of family and friends.

4th grade is reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. This story takes place in Mississippi prior to the Civil Rights Movement. The narrator is a young girl named Cassie Logan. This book inspires great discussion about fairness, ethical behaviors, and history. I am enjoying this book as much as they are!

5th grade is just finished reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book could be called "The book that started Hunger Games." We were all caught up in the story and the life of 12 year old Jonas that we were distraught at the end. Currently we have three different book clubs going. I'm drowning in the books I need to read.

Marshmallow Challenge

Check out the photos from the Marshmallow Challenge in which all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade math students participated. The tallest structure measured 17.5 inches.
