Principal Perspective - Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2018-19 School year! This is going to be a great year, full of learning, exploring and friendship.
Thanks to the many families who came to our Meet & Greet and for the supplies you brought. A special thanks to our PTC for providing a t-shirt for each child this year. If your child did not get his/her t-shirt during our Meet & Greet we will distribute them to students next week so we can all wear them on Friday.
We have been working hard to set up our classrooms in the midst of construction, and we are nearly ready! There are some classrooms where the shelving is not complete, but we hope to see that finished this weekend. Finishing touches on our new HVAC system will continue over the next several weeks, but in the evenings and weekends. The new system is up and running and we have temperature controls in each room that allow us to adjust the heating and cooling.
As we return to the routine of school, I encourage families to return to a schedule that allows them to get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive to school between 8:00 and 8:25. Our days will be full of getting to know each other and learning this first week, and we want all students to he at their best.
See you all next week!

Regular Attendance Is Important
When it comes to attendance, every day matters. According to the Oregon Department of Education, more than one in six students in chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism means a student misses 10% or more school days. That’s about two days per month.
Regular attendance will help children do well in elementary school, secondary school, college and at work. According to the Attendance Works Organization, by 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of school. By 9th grade, regular and high attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
Attendance habits are set the very first week of the school year, so please start building good attendance habits early. As a parent, you can help by establishing a regular bedtime and morning routine. You can also avoid medical appointments during school hours, as well as extended trips when school is in session. We will be sharing more helpful tips and information throughout the school year.
