Great news, Lowell readers! Battle of the Books will return to Lowell for the 2015 -2016 school year! Battle is open to all interested readers who will be 4th and 5th graders this fall! Battle of the Books is a Wheaton Public Library sponsored program. Participants are expected to read a minimum of 25 books. The 2015 - 2016 Battle List is attached in case it is helpful in determining your child's interest in the program. Teams will be formed this spring so that reading can begin. Teams will practice weekly starting in September (day and time to be determined). Competition (Battles) begins in January and will run through early March. Battles are once or twice a week after school and are held at the Wheaton Library. Each school will participate in 8 battles. Practices will continue to be held once a week January thru March, but again those days/times are to be determined.
If this is a program you are interested in learning more about please contact: Barbara Razzino at email@example.com; Deb Farrell at firstname.lastname@example.org; Brigid Coleman at email@example.com; or Karen Lange at firstname.lastname@example.org

Join us for the April PTA Meeting
Please save the date, Thursday, April 16th at 7:00 pm, and join us for the April PTA meeting! Our CUSD 200 Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Schuler, will be joining us. We have invited him to come to our PTA meeting and introduce himself and talk to us about the Board of Education's Vision 2018 plan for our district. It would be great if we could show our support for our District and Lowell and have a really strong turnout. Our meetings are typically less than one hour! We will have free babysitting and a free raffle!
We will also be presenting our slate of candidates for next year's Executive Committee at this meeting, as well as discussing lots of upcoming great spring programs!
Please join us......Thursday, April 16th at 7:00 pm in the LLC for our April PTA meeting featuring guest speaker Dr. Jeff Schuler!
New to the Nest: Colleen Kaczmarski
Colleen Kaczmarski recently joined Ms. Sable's 2nd grade class as their new student teacher. She attends Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights where she is earning a dual certification in both elementary and special education. After completing ten weeks in a self-contained classroom in Naperville, Colleen is excited to join Ms. Sable's class. Colleen lives in Wheaton with her husband and two children. When not in school, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the Great Western Trail. She also enjoys crafting and home decorating. This year’s attendance was the largest ever recorded for the All Wheaton Chess tournament. The kids were wonderful. We were up against over 27 teams in the K-5th grade division. The team worked very hard and endured the multiple rounds of countless brain power. They demonstrated they can work under pressure and still produce outstanding results. They worked together at all times, encouraging each other throughout the day. The Lowell team demonstrated team work, skills and perseverance, and had an outstanding day. This is an exciting way to finish the season.
- Lowell, Outstanding 4th place (Team category)
- Nikhil Cowart, 4th place ( 5th grade category)
- Jordan Winter, 8th place (5th grade category)
- Peter Lange, 8th place (4th grade category)
- Quinn Flanagan, medal (1st grade category)
I am incredibly proud of the team. They all did a fantastic job and deserve their big wins.
