Week In Review!
**Fall MAP testing is complete! Stay tuned for your child's fall scores and targeted growth for the year!**
PLEASE make sure your child is showing you his/her "Daily Duties" course in Schoology! This contains daily work that "usually" can be completed in class, however if students aren't using time wisely, they will be doing the work as "HOMEWORK" --
ELA: We are learning about character traits and how we are able to analyze who characters are by using what they say, do and feel in our text! We watched some video clips highlighting Frozen's character Olaf to model and practice together.
We're digging even deeper next week!
Writing: This week we began talking about the genre of "Realistic Fiction" and how small moments turn into stories. Students are generating ideas for "seed" stories and are thinking about what "could have" happened to make an interesting story for their audience!
"'I'm a better writer today than I was yesterday, and I'll be a better writer tomorrow, then I am today!"
S.S. We are working on State Government-This week students presented on their knowledge of the three branches of state government! Next week we're going to dig in to the process of how a bill becomes a law! CLICK HERE FOR OUR S.S. STUDY GUIDE!
Math: This week we continued to study place values of numbers and rounding. Your child is practicing adding and subtracting large numbers with ungrouping/regrouping and this will continue next week! Building the foundation of number sense is imperative to your child's success in math! Please encourage your child to use "math talk" at home when discussing skills/concepts taught in class and use the iPad resources to keep sharpening those math basics!
Goal Setting: Goal setting is such an important part of our lives! We're teaching the students about "SMART" goals! In the next week or so, each of them will be setting a goal to work toward and will come up with an action plan to achieve it! Stay tuned!
