5Essentials School Survey Now Open!
Once again Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 will participate in the 11th annual statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions conducted by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). This survey provides a platform for students, teachers, and parents to express their opinions on ways to improve their community's schools. Please take a moment to ensure your voice is part of the process by participating in the survey. The 5Essentials survey helps school administrators in District 123 prioritize and plan for the upcoming school year. Our school will only receive the results of the survey if enough families, staff, and students participate.

What's New in First Grade CASE?
Our CASE Kindergarten/First grade class is taught by Ms. Dow and we are lucky enough to have a few amazing aides who help out in that room as well! For the month of February, the Kindergarten/First grade CASE kiddos are beginning a new unit on nature vs, manmade. The theme will continue throughout the month of February in the math, literacy, science and social studies curriculum. The core vocabulary words they are working on are the words "feel" and "in". Students focus on the word "feel" in their literacy groups and the word "in'' when they work with Mrs. Careyin their speech groups. Students will continue to work on individual needs in the individualized centers that occur twice a day. The teachers have increased their fine motor activities. In addition to fine motor practices with Mrs. Mier, we have a center dedicated to fine motor activities. Teachers have started making more time before dismissal to work on crafts that involve gluing, cutting, writing and coloring to help increase student's fine motor. Students also focus on social skills that have been surrounded on using our communication devices, or words in order to access student needs and wants. Ms. Butler runs a group weekly and the most recent game students have been charades. Each student gets to act out a different animal while their peers guess what animal the student is pretending to be. We have a lot of laughs and work together when guessing. Lastly, these lucky kiddos get to cook once a week. The last time students cooked, they had a ton of fun making rice krispie treats. Teachers help students work on following a recipe, mixing, using a microwave and cleaning up.
There are so many fun activities happening down in CASE! We look forward to seeing all the great achievements these students will make during the remainder of the year.
