All 8th graders must take a math placement test for high school on Wednesday, February 3, called the MIRA. (This is different from the iReady, and it is different from the math placement test students have taken in the past due to having to administer the test virtually this year). Please mark your calendars.
The students must take the test in one 90-minute sitting. The test will be administered virtually by your student’s math teacher. Math teachers will provide more information to students during class this week and the following week and where to find the Zoom link for the testing session in Google Classroom. The time block your student will take the test is below.
10:00-11:30 am: Comfort Periods 2 & 4, Derum Period 2, Dueñas Periods 2 & 3
1:00-2:30 pm: Barientos Period 2, Derum Periods 3 & 4, Dueñas Period 5 & 6

We know many students are craving the opportunity to hangout with their Kennedy friends/classmates in-person. Last week we piloted having a group of our students come onto campus to hang out socially distanced outside with masks on (supervised by Kennedy staff) and they had a great time. We would like to roll this out to more students and make this a consistent opportunity on Wednesdays each week or every other week (if it is really popular). Think of it kind of like a club.
If you have a group of up to 10 Kennedy friends who want to participate, then one student from your group needs to email me, sadler@rcsdk8.net, with the first and last name of all students in your group who will be participating. (Make sure you have talked to your friends and their parents/guardians before you sign them up). I will then send a confirmation email to all students and their families (we will call families without emails) that has more detailed information such as the assigned time block (9:00-10:30 or 11:00-12:30), the dates your group is assigned to come on campus, detailed procedures, etc. In the future we may add an additional time block from 1:00-2:30 pm if needed and if we have supervision. (Right now we are short a Campus Supervisor).
For safety, students must wear a mask and may not have a fever or have been exposed to anyone with COVID. Additional safety measures and on-site safety procedures will be explained in the confirmation email. Also for safety, we want to keep these groups of students consistent, like a cohort. If you want to participate, but don’t have a group of friends, you can still email me to participate and when I have availability I will add you to a group or I will create grade level groups of individual students. For right now we are focusing on students who are not in a hub or pod at Kennedy, so that others have the opportunity to come to campus and also because we don’t want to mix groups of students for safety.
Student Store Open This Week (Tienda estudiantil abierta esta semana)
Picture Day Makeups This Wednesday (Día de fotos extra este miércoles)
If you missed one of our pictures days in December, we have one last opportunity this Wednesday, January 27, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Here is the link to the Sign Up Genius to reserve your slot.
Please pull forward in the main parking lot in the right pickup lane and wait until your student is directed to get out of the car. (If you need to walk or bike that is fine, too). Pictures are being taken outside for safety, but students need to have a mask on until they take their picture and put it back on immediately once they have taken their picture. After students take their picture they can walk over to the next tent to pick up their student ID card. 8th graders also need to be measured for a gown for graduation.
