No School for Students Tuesday, September 14th!
Dear O’Maley Families,
Happy Monday! It is beginning to feel like we are back in the routine of school, despite the shorter weeks that we have experienced thus far. We have one more interruption, tomorrow, September 14, which is a No School Day due to voting and staff professional development. We will see students back in school on Wednesday.
Please read on for important information.

COVID-19 at O'Maley: Since we started school August 31st there has been one case reported at O'Maley with no close contacts at school. As in the past, we will continue to contact students, families, and staff who may be close contacts in order to keep the community safe.
Masks & Distancing: Per the Massachusetts DESE and the Gloucester School Committee, all students and staff will be masked in GPS buildings unless socially distanced at 3 feet or more until at least October 1. Masks are not required outdoors. For details on our health and safety protocols district wide, please visit the GPS COVID Guidance and Updates website at https://backtogether.gloucesterschools.com/.
We are having many instances of students forgetting to bring masks to school. While we will provide them in the event that students do not have them, please be reminded that it is the famiiy's responsibility to provide masks for their students.
Clear 2-Liter Bottles Needed!
We have an upcoming opportunity to work with artist Marilu Swett from the Boston Sculptures Guild. Marilu has proposed a sculpture project having students create individual lanterns that as a whole will formulate a collective light show. You can help! Please save Clear 2 liter bottles for us, send them into school and to the art teachers. The projected date for construction is October 12 and 13th.
Drop Off & Pick Up
PLEASE DO NOT:
- park along Cherry Street
- stop along the island or on the Cherry Street side of the parking lot
- drive up over the hill and in front of the school
- encourage your child to run across the street or parking lot to reach your vehicle
Following these directions will keep traffic moving, will prevent buses and other vehicles from being blocked, and most importantly, will keep everyone safe.
Students should NEVER run across the street or parking lot to or from cars.
Thank you for your help to keep everyone safe.
Free Breakfast & Lunch Every Day
Students at O'Maley have 15 minutes to eat lunch and 15 minutes of recess outdoors; in inclement weather, recess is held in the auditorium or gym.
Communication and Contact Information: Communication is essential for our ongoing partnership. Almost all communication from O’Maley will be electronic. If you do not have an email address, please let us know so that we can send you hard copies or a link to documents via SMS text messages.
