HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 1 Week 2 Friday 11 February
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Paul’s word gives us plenty to think about. Unity is central to our realisation of the importance of being together. It is what gives us strength, and in times like these it assumes even greater significance.
On that note it has been fantastic to see the response to Leanna’s urgent request for more volunteers in tuckshop. Nine people have kindly agreed to join in. Canteen is a great place to be involved, and Leanna’s wonderful glass half full approach to life in general is just so good! If you are open to helping feed the masses, get in touch - there’s always room!
Many parents and guardians have expressed their appreciation to our teachers for their presentations in lieu of the face to face meetings. Our crew invested a lot of time in this change and I appreciate the kind and thoughtful way in which you acknowledged their efforts. Thank you!
On Tuesday I sent you an update on the covid protocols as they affect our school. Today, together with the information from our P&F I refer in more detail to what it means for us. We will review our events term by term. Access to school protocols may well change more quickly. We will update you if this happens.
Despite the changes to our calendar there is plenty on. Our children have been happy and engaged in class and their teachers are thriving - long may that continue!!
Thanks very much for your support. It means a great deal.
Stay safe, well and united!
Mark de Kluyver

SCHOOL CALENDAR
COVID CONVERSATION CONTINUED...
The most recent update to schools came in on Tuesday evening. In order to comply, and in order to do our best in terms of risk minimisation to keep our school open, happy and safe, nearly all the calendar events for term one will not take place - for example, Dads and Kids Campout, assemblies, Edudance concert, class and school masses, Year Six camp, and registration for the Sacraments at mass. We think that our school swimming carnival at the end of term will be permitted to continue. This is subject to confirmation later in the term.
The changes to our calendar mean we have had to review the way we do things - just about everything in fact. We started on Wednesday with the presentations by teachers to parents. and the change to areas in which children play. Changes this term include posting class items, Edudance concerts and events online instead of assemblies and concerts, and including images of the children receiving awards in the newsletter. Grade masses are replaced with Class Prayer services (Paraliturgies). Registration for the sacramental programmes will take place in these class Paraliturgies - teachers will collect the completed forms at the end of the Paraliturgies and return them to Father Peter and Elle. Year Six camp will be replaced with days set aside for on and off campus activities. Council and P&F meetings will take place online. After school music tuition will take place only with children from our school and not from other schools as well, which happened in the past. After school sports with coaches who have documentation showing that their vaccinations are up to date, continues. End of term parent teacher interviews will be done on the phone.
As per the directive from Catholic Education WA, the Education Department, and the Chief Health Officer of Western Australia we have been advised to separate cohorts as best as we can within our school environment. You may have already noticed morning supervision has changed with Junior primary students being supervised from 8.15 am in the undercover area and Upper primary students being supervised on the courts. We have also created a timetable of different play areas for different year groups so there is less cross over and personal contact between the years. We have made this decision collectively as a staff and will revise the timetable, structures in place and areas of play in two weeks. We have also asked teachers to make sure they are giving the children in their care extra time to eat and play in open spaces at their discretion and when it fits in with their educational timetable. We understand that this is not a perfect system, but we make these changes in the best interest of our student’s and staff’s health and well-being. We want to keep our school open!
CEWA are conducting a ventilation audit of all Catholic schools. Ours took place today. Once the report is received, recommendations will be implemented with the support of CEWA.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and kindness during these changes. We are doing our best to make Holy Rosary a safe and happy educational environment for our children and staff.
And, I think that’s about it for now. These changes have affected every level of our community's operations and will do so for a while. If we support each other with kindness and patience, strength and unity, we stand the best chance of keeping our school open and in good shape.
Thank you!

OUR P & F NEWS
It's hard to believe so many changes have taken place in this past 2 weeks already. How wonderful is it to have completed such an amazing new playground for the kids to explore and challenge themselves on in such uncertain times. This wouldn't have been delivered without our amazing community getting behind Asha Julian's amazing vision (parent to Axel year 2 & Frankie year 4). Over this past 2 years Asha has gone above and beyond to lead this project and see it succeed, thanks to all who have supported it. Thank you Asha, the kids just love it, their giggles and shrieks of delight are priceless!
As a P&F we'd like to also thank the group who grouped together to install the slide so it was ready for use on Day one. Such an amazing effort, Thank you;
Jay Gillies - Jack and Alby year 2
Ben Thorpe - Amelia year 4
Howard Bellamy - Asha's dad (Axel & Frankie's grandad year 2 & 4)
Dan Meunier - Margot year 1 & Darcy year 4
James Holden - Finley year2
Tim Irving - stepdad to Harper year 2 & Leila year 1
Thana - Tim's co-worker
Asha & Peter Julian - Frankie year 4 & Axel year 2
The current pandemic is certainly causing need for adjustment & these are unprecedented times for us all. There are many ways we can help each other to make the uncertain times better & more manageable. Keep an ear out as our class teachers will be looking for class reps. This is a wonderful way to help out, welcome newcomers, to get behind any families in your class/year who may be requiring some extra support and stay informed. Both the canteen and P&F are looking for volunteers also.
We will share information about upcoming events, necessary cancellations or handy information to empower you via the P&F section of the newsletter and in some cases via the parent reps &/or the Holy Rosary school Facebook page.
We'd like to leave you with some links to resources which hopefully will assist you to manage the frequently changing Covid pandemic environment.
