Early Years
Stephen was born on November 3,1793 in southwestern Virginia to Moses Austin and Mary Brown Austin. He was the second child of the family. On June 8,1798 when Stephen was four years old,they moved west to the lead-mining region of present-day Potosi,Missiouri.
Austin Was a Great Man But Never Married

Death and Estate
In December 1836, Austin was the new capitol of Columbia where he caught a severe cold; his condition worsened. Doctors were called in, but could not help him. Austin died of pneumonia on December 27,1836.He was at the home of George B McKinstry near what is now West Columbia,Texas. He was 43.
Stephen F. Austin's Contribution to Texas
Stephan F. Austin (November 3, 1793-December 27, 1836) was an American empresario born in Virginia and raised in southeastern Missouri. Known as the Father of Texas, he led the second, and ultimately successful, colonization of the region by bringing 300 families from the United States to the region in 1825.
