Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Hi, my name is Allison Couch and I will be subbing for Principal Aguirre until November 16, 2018. I was originally only supposed to be here last Friday and this week, but as the week progressed, BG realized she needed more time to put her mother's affairs in order. It is exciting for me to have the opportunity to get to know you and your students. I have been trying to introduce myself to parents as I see them in school or at student pick up. If I haven't met you, please introduce yourself. I am the tall blonde with short hair.
I was a principal in PPS for 21 years. My last school was West Sylvan. I retired in 2010. Since then I have substituted as a principal in many schools in Portland, but this is the first time I've been asked to substitute for a school in the neighborhood in which I live. It is great to be here.
We had a fabulous IB assembly today. The trait we were awarding was Caring. Thanks to all the parents who came to support their students. Please look for your student's picture on the bulletin board in the main hallway on Monday. Next month we will be looking for Inquirers. To be an Inquirer we:
“nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life."
We love it when parents come to volunteer at our school. I know there are several parents who regularly volunteer and the classroom teachers know when they will be there. If you are not a regular and want to volunteer, please let the teacher know in advance so that they can be prepared for your visit.
Conferences are just a couple of weeks away. If you haven't signed up now is the time. Please take a moment and do it today. The teachers are working diligently to be able to provide you a snap shot of where your student is academically at this time. We look forward to seeing all of you at conferences.
Have a Great Weekend!
Allison Couch

Counselor's Corner
Hello 8th grade families,
Though it is early in the school year, it is time to start planning the 8th grade transition to high school. Throughout the year, the 8th graders will be participating in various activities to help prepare them for high school including tours of schools, review of high school course books with important vocabulary and graduation information, as well as student panels discussing important high school skills. I will use email to update families about events so please make sure the school has your current contact information. Today, the 8th graders received information about the lottery high schools Benson, Jefferson and the Metropolitan Learning Center. The application window for lottery high schools is November 8-November 30th. Students are invited to attend Shadow Days at the lottery high schools. Neighborhood schools will be hosting events later in the school year.
Information about Jefferson High School and their tour on November 28th can be found at: https://www.pps.net/jefferson
Information about Benson High school and their shadow day on November 16th can be found at: https://www.pps.net/domain/4204
Information about the Metropolitan Learning Center and their shadow day on November 29th can be found at:
