Help Us Better Your Child's School...

We are trying to improve parent attendance for our school events. We created this survey to find out what we can do to help you be able to come to our events. Please take a minute to fill out this 3 question survey:

Learning Targets

Language Arts- This week in Language Arts, we will be starting our DBQ. A DBQ is a Document Based Question. The students will be answering the question “Early Jamestown: Why Did So Many Colonist Die?” To answer the question, they will analyze several document, and then come up with their opinion based on the documents. In the end, they will write an essay to support their opinion. This will take a few weeks. This week we will be learning some of the background information and start looking at the documents. I am very excited about this DBQ. I really think the kids will enjoy it.

Math- As we swiftly travel through our Module 2, we are investigating strategies for the subtraction of decimals up to the thousandths place. Thursday we will take a summative on those subtraction strategies. We then will view ways to chart our information using bar graphs, dot plots, and stem and leaf plots. It is fun to gather data and display it in the appropriate chart or graph. PLEASE, be practicing multiplication facts with your child nightly if they do not know the facts to 12x12.

Science- Density, solubility, mixtures and solutions: will all be our studies this week. We will be doing some labs and reading about these topics to help prepare for the summative on Monday.

Please be aware of and help your child stay in compliance with the following dress code:

We are doing weekly Friday auctions, where the kids can spend there 5th grade money. We are asking for donations to help sustain our auction materials. Gently used items, old toys, dollar items, fingernail polishes, notepads, games, g-rated movies, craft supplies, etc. are all welcome. Please send donated items to your homeroom teacher. The students work hard to earn their money, and we want to maintain a high incentive for good behavior. The auctions play a significant role in the positive environment we are creating. Thank you for your involvement and support.

Spelling Test: Monday, October 5

Please Bring Headphones/Earbuds/ Pencil Holder

With all the technology we will be using this year, having some headphones/earbuds would be a great convenience for your child. So if you have an old pair laying around the house that you don't mind losing, please send it with your child. They will be able to keep it in their pencil pouch or locker. Also, if you still have your pencil holder from last year, please bring it in.

Parents that are picking up your child tomorrow and/ or any day after. Please make sure you have a green sign with your child's name on it in dark letters. It is for the safety of your child. It also helps the carline to go by faster. I want to thank you ahead of time for your patience, as we anticipate the carline taking longe than normal this first week. If you walk up to pick up your child, you must have a green sign. We realize that many of you know your teacher and they know you, but we will be very strict with this procedure for your child's safety. If you do not have a green sign, be prepared to show your id. Thank you for your understanding!
