Testing Tips for Students:
Get a good night's sleep.
Eat a good breakfast (SMS serves breakfast starting at 7:15).
Come to school on time and every day.
Good Faith Effort:
- Use a graphic organizer.
- Label each part of the answer.
- Answer all parts of the question.
- Complete all steps of the Writing Process in On-Demand by using the graphic organizer page in the booklet.
- Show all math work and check math work with a calculator if it is a part you may use a calculator.
- Do not leave any blanks
- Do your best work and give 110% ALL the time.
- Check to be sure you have completed the entire section before closing the test booklet.
- Use the time given.
- Sign the Honor Code on the booklet if applicable.
- Respect others by being quiet during testing.
- Listen to teacher's directions and keep a positive attitude.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Library News
100% of AR goals are due May 7 for all students with at least 82% accuracy.
ALL Library Books and materials are due May 8.
If your book is lost or ruined, please pay the replacement cost to Mrs. Buley-Coomes in the Library/Media Center ASAP to enjoy end of year activities.
Summer Reading Book for 2019-2020
Order forms for the summer reading book have been sent home with 6th and 7th Grade. (Current 8th graders will receive information from the high school about their summer reading book).
Students need to send $5.00 in with your child by Friday, April 26 and we will order you the summer reading book.

School Fees
These fees include: any overdue library book charges, science fee from the beginning of the year, Chromebook fees, new Chromebook cases throughout the year, and others.
ATTENTION 8th GRADERS
8th Grade Dance
****Students planning to attend the 8th Grade Dance on Friday night, will not be allowed into the dance if they are absent on Friday. We run an attendance report at the end of the day Friday at 3:25 and anyone who is on the list will not be able to attend the dance. The list will be available for staff when checking students in for the dance.

8th Grade Baby Pictures
Attention 8th Graders and Parents
It’s time to find those incredibly cute baby pictures for our 8th grade ceremony!
Please send ONE baby picture to Carrie Bolin via email to carrie.bolin@henderson.kyschools.us with your child’s name in the subject line!
IF you cannot submit a photo via email send one in a ziplock bag - write your child’s name on it and drop it off at the guidance office. We will scan and return your picture.
Deadline for Photo Submission is Friday May 3rd, 2019!
8th Grade Recognition
We would like to invite you to attend our 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 16th. Continental breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria, followed by the recognition program at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. We will be recognizing our 8th grade students for all of their accomplishments throughout their time here at South Middle School.
8th graders are dismissed after the ceremony.
DRESS CODE: This is a special event. Please make an effort to look your very best. Girls’ dresses should be an appropriate length with no spaghetti straps or strapless without a sweater or shrug.
When you arrive, please sign in at the table in the cafeteria.
Be sure you do not block the bus lane in the parking lot.
