OCE Curriculum Nights
Based on feedback from the parent survey, OCE is bringing a series of Family Academy curriculum night presentations to parents. Child care is provided at all workshops. Two 4th grade math workshops have been added in February.

- February 12, 2019, 6:30-8:00 p.m. - 4th Grade Parent Math Workshop There's a Fine Line Between Fractions and Decimals. Child care provided and free math kits to take home. See this informational flyer for more details and sign up here.
- February 20, 2019, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. – Building Socio-Emotional Skills in Your Elementary School Child. In this workshop parents will learn how to attend to the socio-emotional development of their child while also setting appropriate limits and following through on consequences.
- February 28, 2019, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - 4th Grade Parent Math Workshop There's a Fine Line Between Fractions and Decimals. Child care and free math kits to take home. See this informational flyer for more details and sign up here.

- March 13, 2019 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. – Reading is Fundamental! (K-5) Reading is fundamental to function in today’s society and in developing a good self-image. One of the most effective approaches to help a child develop literacy skills is having a home environment that encourages reading in daily life. Parents will learn how to support the development of their child’s literacy at home.

Staff Appreciation Week

If you would like to participate in Staff Appreciation Week, your child can bring in an item for their teacher AND special staff buddy (lists were sent home) on one day, two days, or as many days as you would like to participate. We want all teachers, administrators, specialists, office staff, ancillary staff, cafe and custodians to feel recognized for all they do every day for our children at OCE.
Below is a list of themes for each day and staff have lists of some of their favorite things in the front office you need inspiration. Thank you for all you do to support the staff here at OCE!
Monday - You Make us BLOOM - Send a flower (real, fake, hand drawn, get creative!)
Tuesday - We Are Huge FANS of You - Send your teacher some fan mail - write a note telling them how awesome they are or draw them a special picture.
Wednesday - SUPPLY Them With Thanks - Pick up a classroom supply that might be running low
Thursday - My Teacher is a TREAT - Treat your teacher to their favorite snack, beverage, or candy .
Friday - Thanks are in the CARDS - Bring a gift card to a favorite restaurant, store or somewhere they can treat themselves.
Due to popular demand, we have opened up sales for another round of t-shirt orders. T-shirts are $10 each. Get them while you can!
Also available this time are OCE tie-dye magnets! For just $5 you can show your support of OCE on your car or fridge with these fun magnets.
Orders due February 24th. Purchased items will be sent home with your student about two weeks later.
Silent Auction and Gala: Tickets, Vacation Raffle & How to Bid

Thank you OCE families for sending in your Box Tops! Every Box Top is cash for our school!

The KIds Heart Challenge is here!
If you haven't already, please register for our school team at heart.org/kidsheartchallenge or by searching Kids Heart Challenge in the app store on your mobile device.
Our students are learning all about what they can do to keep their hearts healthy, take their own health challenge and learn how they can help others by collecting donations for the American Heart Association. We are a healthy service-minded community.

News from the OCE School Counselors
Be on the lookout for more information on an upcoming week of RAK = Random Acts of Kindness, February 18 - 22. The school counselors will be doing activities with the children at OCE. We encourage families to talk with their kids about their RAK check-off sheet for showing kindness at home and at school.

I Heart Math & Science Day
OCE will be hosting the first I Heart Math & Science Day at on February 14th!
This will be an exciting day for all students to dive into hands-on experiments and explore Math & Science programs. We want everyone to be involved! Make sure to follow the event
You will have access to pictures, fun live videos, and a parent Math & Science Trivia Game! #IheartMathScienceDay
Food 4 Kids Donations Needed
The KidsCorps kids are working hard sorting food for the Food 4 Kids Program. They are still in need of more items so Backpack's can start going out next week. Please send in any of the following:
- Instant Oatmeal and/or Grit
- Individual Size Box Cereal
- Boxes of Macaroni & Cheese
- Cans of Soup/Stew
- Cans of Meat (Tuna, Chicken, etc.)
- Jar of Peanut Butter or Nut Butter
- Plastic Jar of Jelly/Jam
- Small Bags of Pretzels and/or Goldfish
- Granola and/or Cereal Bars
- Can of Fruit, in juice not syrup
- Pack of Individual Applesauce
- 100% Fruit Snacks or Fruit Strips
- Cans of Vegetables (Green Beans, Peas, Carrots, Corn)

OCE Kids Corps Food 4 Kids program provides a weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch and breakfast are unavailable over the weekend. All food is nonperishable and provided to children FREE of charge. It is our hope these resources will support the health, behavior and achievement of every student that participates.
