#BeThe1To is the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s message for National Suicide Prevention Month. #BeThe1To helps spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide. Research shows people who are having thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks them in a caring way. Findings suggest acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce rather than increase suicidal ideation. 988 is confidential, free, and available 24/7/365, connecting those experiencing a mental health, substance use, or suicidal crisis with trained crisis counselors. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, consider reaching out to a trusted adult, counselor, or calling 988.

Important Information
- Please only use the crosswalk in the morning if you have to come into the building to conduct school business. We strive to get car rider line completed as quickly as possible because we believe the quicker students can join their PROWL group, the more time they have to learn! Every time we have to stop traffic for students to use the crosswalk, are minutes we lose in the classroom.
- Instruction begins at 7:45 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50. If you arrive past 7:50, please walk your child to the doors so you can sign them into the office.
- If you have any transportation changes, please make sure that you let Mrs. Heather know by 2:30. This helps ensure that she has enough time to alert teachers of the change.
- Your child may bring a water bottle to school and refill it our touch less water fountains.
Elementary Schools will learn about positive mental health.
Through a partnership with Arkansas' Chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we have planned to increase our mental health supports by extending specifically geared mental health curriculum to 3rd-5th grades this year. Elementary Counselors will deliver the Gizmo lesson to all 3-5 Grades. They will talk about positive mental health and develop an age appropriate mental health plan and talk about reaching out to a trusted adult if they need help. Please prep your staff in your building by reminding them that everyone is a trained trusted adult!
Character Word of the Month
Compass of the Week
Mrs. Wickless had the task of passing the Compass of the Week. She said, "I would like to pass the Compass of the Week to Mrs. Barkley this week. She greets everyone with a smile and always has such a positive attitude. It is evident that she loves getting to work with our kids and that she makes a sometimes difficult task fun and engaging for them. She is always willing to help where needed and is a true team player. Thank you, Mrs. Barkley for all you do!"
Science of Reading for families
Each month the Arkansas Department of Education puts out a newsletter focused on literacy!
This month, they will begin a series of newsletters that focuses on the complex task of writing. Click this link to read the current issue of the RISE newsletter!
We use these items to send home with our Eastside families! Since kids are carrying items home in backpacks we kindly ask for no glass jars! Thank you for loving our Eastside kiddos!
Eastside's Behavior Matrix
The matrix is what we use to shape our behavior! These matrixes are posted in every classroom and throughout the building. Please review the behavior expectations with your child at home, especially for the areas of the classroom, hallway, and playground! Every morning would be a great time to remind your child to be safe at school and kind to others!
