POWER OF THE ARTS IN TRAUMA THERAPY
A Symposium within the Expressive Therapies Summit
NOVEMBER 7 & 8, 2013
Creative expression can help to elucidate, as well as soften, the wordless grip of experienced trauma. Consequently, the creative arts therapies have contributed to a broader understanding of how trauma is processed and eventually overcome. For this reason, arts therapies have gained widespread recognition in the treatment of trauma survivors. This 2-day symposium will feature a variety of leading-edge approaches to trauma treatment that will be of interest to all expressive arts therapists, as well as clinicians in related mental health professions.
Day One will consist of a series of master lectures integrating core concepts and best practices in the treatment of trauma through the arts. Day Two will feature uncommon dialogues with experts in trauma treatment from outside the expressive arts that will celebrate, challenge, and broaden our understanding and appreciation of the role of arts-based approaches in the psychotherapy of traumatized people.
