Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
February 10 - 14
Thank you to everyone that came out to conferences on Thursday night. A special thank you to PTA for providing a delicious dinner for the staff. It is greatly appreciated! If you were not able to make it last week, there is still time to sign up for conferences this Thursday ( Feb. 13th). This is a great opportunity to communicate with your child's teacher about successes or concerns that you may have.
Even with an unexpected snow day on Friday, I was able to observe many great things at Brent throughout the week. In Mrs. Geis' class, I saw students actively engaged in learning stations with Mrs. Geis, Mrs. Bause, Mrs. Oakley leading small group activities. In Ms. Murphy's class, I observed students sharing their writing pieces in the final stage of writer's workshop. There's lots of great learning happening at Brent!
I'd like to share about an upcoming event that will be held at Brent on Monday, February 24th. The event is from 6 - 7:30 pm. A staff and parent team from Brent and Whitaker is hosting Parent Literacy Night! This is an opportunity to learn how to help your child/ren with reading at home. You'll get a goodie bag with resources, tips and tricks from teachers, and food! We look forward to seeing you at this first annual event! The event flyer is below. Please use this link to RSVP: https://forms.gle/15vUwiScPhGYRtV68
As a reminder, we do not have school on Friday, February 14th or Monday, February 17th. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 18th.
I hope that everyone has a great week! As always, if you need anything, do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you,
Ms. Baker

Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Rouse
Thank you to everyone who acknowledged National School Counselor Week. It is an honor to be Brent's School Counselor. I enjoy helping students learn about lifelong social and emotional skills and supporting families in any way that I can.
February is off to a great start with kindness and empathy lessons. Students are learning what it means to "stand in someone else's shoes," and the importance of noticing how others feel. Students were able to reflect on and share what it's like to stand in their own shoes. Ask your child about empathy!
