Winter is Coming!
Fleming's cold weather policies
As we enter the colder weather we just wanted to remind all families of the guidelines for winter gear. If the temps are below 55 degrees you need long sleeves. If the temps are below 45 you need a coat. If the temps go below 0 (with or without windchill ) we do not go outside.
Once the snow comes we are staying with the parameters of....
1. If you have snow pants and boots you have full access to the playground and field.
2. If you have only boots you can stay on the mulch or blacktop.
3. If you have no boots you have to stay on the blacktop
* It's very helpful when student's outerwear is labeled, to avoid it making it to lost and found*
PBIS News
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Pablo Picasso
We expand our learning of the Fleming fundamental “Be Kind” with this month’s theme: generosity. While we have had a blast with Fort Day, Twin Day, and Super Hero Day, November’s focus is on giving. The word of the week is generosity, and we are ready to show our generous spirit! Classes are working hard to earn eggs by being safe, kind, respectful and responsible. Each egg is worth $5, and when we are done, we will donate our earnings to Essex CHIPS which supports the Tween Center. In addition, classrooms are holding food drives for Aunt Dot’s Place, a local organization helping those needing food assistance.
At Wednesday’s PBIS assembly, Mr. Oquendo showed a wonderful video about a young boy helping his friend through generosity. Instead of using his hard-earned money on a toy, he replaced a text book for his friend. We were also treated to a beautiful Nepali dance by two of our students, demonstrating we can be generous with our talent too!
Ask your student about their class activities around generosity. Thank you for your support in helping our school be safe, kind, respectful and responsible.
Fleming is giving back!
Colder weather is here!
Time to get those jackets out…. And maybe hats and mittens. We have some students who arrive early for school who may have morning outside time from 7:40 until 8:00 am daily and all students have a half hour for recess which will be outside daily unless the temps with wind chill factor reaches zero, then we will bring them inside, so please send your child prepared to spend a minimum of 30 minutes outside every day. After School use of the Fleming playground is assigned exclusively to Village Kids unless there is an adult supervising students at play after school.

Steam Museum
**ATTENTION FLEMING FAMILIES**
On November 13th Mobile Ed is transforming our gymnasium into a state-of-the-art hands-on STEAM Museum. Your children will get to explore different stations that truly has something for everyone! From building an arch to programming a robot to 3-D printing (just to name a few).
We can NOT do this without volunteers. Mobile Ed is asking that we have 6 volunteers for each time slot. Please go to the link below. Sign up for your child’s block and more if your schedule allows.

Job Positions at Fleming
1. Recess Supervisor- assist in keeping students safe on the playground. Hours are daily from 11:15-12:45 pm. This would be a great job for someone that wants some involvement with their students school, a college student, a retiree. Please call the main office for more information.
2. Bus Supervisor-Assist after school, providing supervision to students waiting for the bus to arrive. Please call the school for more information. This is a 1 hour position that starts after school.
Box Top Collection:
Thank you to every family that helped donate box tops to our school competition. The Classroom winner was Mrs. Guntulis' Class! Please keep those boxtops coming in! We will be having another round of competition later this year, but am happy to collect as we go. Classrooms will be given credit for early boxtops.
Volunteers are always welcome!
Emily's Clothing Closet
Hello Fleming Family!
I want to be the first to introduce to you the….CLOTHING CLOSET!
The clothing closet is a space where families/students/staff can look at donated clothing and take it home for free! There is no limit to the amount of clothing one can take. Clothing Closet will be open during additional designated times (Parent/Teacher Conferences, Holiday Events) and on an as needed basis. I will add updates in the Fleming Flyer as we go!
The clothing ranges from kids- adults!
If you are interested in donating or in need of clothing please feel free to email me, your student’s teacher or our new school counselor C. Sellars.
Please feel free to contact me for any questions, comments, concerns
Thank you
