When we returned from spring break MDHHS and Oakland County changed the CDC recommendations for quarantine from 10 days to 14. For our cases that occurred prior to the change we "grandfathered" in those cases and used the 10 day guideline. Those that are quarantined now fall under the 14 day guidelines. We have had many parents questioning us about the quarantine period. Please understand that health guidelines change often and we are continually trying to hit a moving target. To make things even more complicated, some doctors are telling patients that the quarantine period is 10 days. Having a child quarantined becomes a difficult undertaking for a working parent, and we are sensitive to that. As a school community, we have done an outstanding job of doing our part to keep our Huskies in school.
The exact wording of the CDC guidelines is as follows:
Your local public health authorities make the final decisions about how long quarantine should last, based on local conditions and needs. Follow the recommendations of your local public health department if you need to quarantine. Options they will consider include stopping quarantine
- After day 10 without testing
- After day 7 after receiving a negative test result (test must occur on day 5 or later)
CDC continues to endorse quarantine for 14 days and recognizes that any quarantine shorter than 14 days balances reduced burden against a small possibility of spreading the virus.
*Holly Academy is required to follow the guidance of the Oakland County Health Department.
Clearly, Michigan is seeing a rise in cases, causing MDHHS to pivot back to a 14 day quarantine. The burden inherent in making decisions that impact the health of our Huskies is one I do not take lightly. As an educator, I do not have the insight that a doctor, nurse, or epidemiologist has, and I have to make decisions based on the guidelines made by those who are trained in public health. Holly Academy will follow the Oakland County Health Division guidelines for quarantine as we do our part to stop the spread in Michigan. However, we will allow a 10 day quarantine after receiving a negative test result if the test occurs on day 5 or later. Thank you for your continued support. Power of the Pack!
Holly Academy will be offering summer school this year. To receive funding we must offer eight weeks of math and reading. We will offer two, half day, three-week sessions and one two-week session at no cost to you. You can opt your Husky into any or all of the sessions. Please fill out the Google Form below if you are interested. Dare to be remarkable!

Elections for the PTO Board are held at the May meeting. There will be some turnover of our current Board for the 21/22 school year. Typically, we like prospective candidates to have attended three PTO meetings prior to being nominated for a Board seat. Should you be interested and not meet this requirement, please follow-through by emailing PTO.firstname.lastname@example.org, we do not want to turn away any candidates that have a passion to serve!
