Principal's Message- What does 21st Century Learning Look Like at Wolfsville?
Last school year we examined and tailored our blended learning programs and grouping structures to make progress toward this mission. This year in our primary grade's Language Arts we have worked to create new structures that are more progressive to ensure all students utilize high quality reading and writing instruction everyday. This progressive style of system utilizes flexible grouping structures, across classrooms and sometimes even grade levels, for reading support based on academic growth. As students move through reading levels and display deep comprehension they progress to the next level. This approach to education is sometimes referred to as Competency Based Education or CBE and is often defined as “A system of instruction where students advance to higher levels of learning when they demonstrate mastery of a concept and skills regardless of time, pace or place.” In short, in a CBE system Learning = Constant & Time = Variable. Whereas “In a traditional system, time is the constant and learning is the variable, meaning students spend a set amount of time on certain subjects and advance at predetermined intervals (course units and grade levels) regardless of whether they have mastered the materials.” Our primary children currently work with their grade level teacher for some aspects of reading and writing, but they also work with a variety of other teachers and specialists to target specific skills in a small guided reading group so every child is challenged and continues to grow at an accelerated pace.
Overall, our primary reading data has progressed at record levels and we are able to challenge our students and ensure learning every day more than ever. In the coming school year, we look forward to growing this system in our intermediate grades so that we can continue to focus on your child and each of our students individually. This will support our mission of empowering students to ‘experience the pride of achievement through the power of learning’.

Visitor Management System
REMINDER: FCPS has implemented a Visitor Management System in all schools. This system allows schools to better track visitors, contractors, and volunteers and provide a safer environment for all students. It also allows school administrators to know who is in the building at any given time.
When you come to our school, you will be asked for your driver's license or another form of government issued ID. If you do not have a formal ID, you will be asked your name and birth date. Your information will be entered into the visitor management system (VMS) every time you visit the school. Out of respect to the privacy of our visitors and guests, the system is not connected to any other database such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, and information is not shared with any outside agencies. Once the ID scan is done and entry is approved, the system will issue a visitor's sticker that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of the visit.
Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this new VMS (Visitor Management System).
