Jensen Ranch
May 17, 2020
Jensen Jaguar Families,
We are heading into the final stretch of the 19-20 school year. I know many of us were not quite sure how we would make it, but we did...with perseverance and commitment and likely a bit of humor. Take a deep breath and congratulate yourself and your family for working together and I hope even growing closer together during this time at home. Celebrate our 2nd to last spirit day of the year this Friday, "Hearts and Pawsitive Message Day" by cutting out colorful hearts for your front windows and adding a pawsitive message for those who pass by! You could also use colored chalk to draw your hearts and write your special message on your sidewalk!
Jensen Volunteers
We are usually able to give thanks to all of our volunteers in person, but this spring, we are not able to. Please know every contribution you make to our school, big or small, does not go unnoticed or appreciated! There is no way Jensen could be the amazing place it is without the contributions of our families and community members.
Turning in Completed Work
We will have prescheduled times for your family to come to school to drop-off completed student work. Please see the schedule below and please follow the schedule which ensures that we will not have more than 38 families coming through at a time.
- This Friday, May 22 is the day to turn in all remaining completed student work, classroom novels and any additional items your teacher is requesting to be returned.
- This is the last collection day for library books so please bring them in for drop-off.
- If you did not pick-up your child's medications earlier this month, then you can do so on Friday during you designated time.
- 5th graders who are not continuing with music in middle school and have district instruments should drop the instruments off during the designated times on Friday.
Returning Chromebooks
Families who have checked out Chromebooks have two options for return.
- Families may return the Chromebook on your materials collection day (either Th., 5/28 or Fri., 5/29 depending on the last name). Families that are moving and have Chromebooks checked out are to return the Chromebooks on these materials collection days.
- Families may keep the Chromebook during the summer. Current K-4th graders may keep their Chromebook and return during our walk-through registration (if we have one) or during the first week of school. Current 5th graders may keep their Chromebooks over the summer and will be asked to return the Chromebooks to school during the last week of July so that they can be cleaned and prepared for redistribution. More specific directions will be provided towards the end of July.
Final Materials Collection
We have prescheduled times for your family to come to school to collect final student materials and belongings that are from the classroom. Grading for Trimester 3
CVUSD is converting the grading system for middle and high school to Credit/No Credit for the second semester in order to hold students harmless during distance learning. This decision follows guidelines from the CA State Department of Education and is in line with what UC (University of California) and CSU (California State University) systems are accepting due to the Pandemic. To keep in line with this, elementary report cards for this trimester will include marks reflecting students' efforts and comments focused on what students have worked on, how they are doing, any areas of improvement, and suggestions for what to work on during the summer. Teachers will not be providing standard grades (1, 2, 3) for the 3rd trimester and these boxes will remain blank. You will receive some additional information regarding 3rd Trimester grading this week. Report Cards will; be emailed home to you by your teachers.
Kindergarten and 5th Grade Promotions
The links to these virtual prerecorded celebrations will be shared with you the day of your child's celebration: May 27 for both Kindergarten and 5th Grade. You are free to share the links with your family and friends. 5th Grade will also be invited to come to school at prescheduled times on Wednesday, 5/27 to collect your 5th-grade advancement certificate and celebration bag. More specific information will be coming from your child's teacher.
Share a Photo or Two Along the Way
Share a photo with your teacher or with me! If you want to share pictures of your children working, learning, creating and exploring from home, please feel free to send me or your teacher a picture. If you want it to be just a person share, that is wonderful. If you want to share with our school community, I can share on my work Facebook page, the Jensen Twitter feed, school newsletter and website! If we can't be together, we can still be connected! Let us know your sharing preferences and those will be honored.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
The State of California is home to over 575,000 Asian and Pacific Islander students
from kindergarten through grade twelve. The diversity of these groups include Bengali, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Japanese, Koreans, Lao, Malayan, Okinawan, Pakistani, Thai, Vietnamese, Samoan, Asian Indian, and others. Despite the hardships and barriers they encountered, Asian Pacific Americans have made substantial historical and cultural contributions to the growth and development of California's government, industry and commerce, agriculture, science, literature, and arts. Please join Jensen Ranch and CVUSD in honoring our Asian Pacific students and families as well as those across the country.

Jensen Ranch PTA Updates
Hello Jensen Jaguar Families,
Thank you to everyone who showed up to our JRE Family Car Parade last Friday. It was a great last hooray to all our teachers and staff to round up Teacher Appreciation week! Thank you for your cash contributions for our wonderful JRE staff. We collected a great amount for an awesome staff breakfast/lunch for next school year! Thank you to my fellow PTA Board members who helped me on our school corner! It was good to see everyone in 3D !!
Thank you to everyone who shopped our Online Book Fair last week! All proceeds will go towards supporting our teachers and staff next year! I hope everyone purchased some awesome books for summer reading fun!
Please place your School Supply Kits order by May 29th. We currently have 45 orders placed, which isn't bad for just a week and no face time with our JRE families. However, we should be at 200 orders by now! Our account # 12856 needs to be entered on the login page https://www.shopttkits.com/
Remember, you are placing a school supply kit for the grade your child/children are entering in the Fall (i.e. place a 4th-grade box order, not a 3rd-grade box)! Thank you for your support!
You should have received your JRE Yearbooks last weekend! If you did not, please contact our yearbook staff at: jensenranchyearbooks@gmail.com Thank you, Yearbook Staff, for an awesome job! Our yearbooks look fab!
Stay Safe. Stay Well. Stay Home.
