Happy New Year from BCE !
I hope everyone had a joyful and restful holiday break. The Bobcats are excited to be back and are already back to work. Many holiday joys have been shared this week and our first assembly this morning for the 2023 school year was great! If you are interested in attending an assembly the schedule of Assemblies for this semester is posted in this newsletter.
The Spring semester is a busy one starting with Middle of the Year assessment this week and next, Spring Break, PTO and School events, recognition and celebrations of people, and preparation for STAAR in May. So, make sure you take the time to read through the Beehive newsletters as they will be packed with information.
With the slight change in our morning drop off (Kinder and 1st joining the car rider line) we do have more cars in the car rider line that we need to adjust to, so your patience is appreciated. For everyone, please remember that our car rider gate and door opens at 7am. So, if you need in and out of here fast in the mornings we are here to let your child[ren] in starting at 7am. And, the gate has to be closed and locked at 7:40, so please go to the front if you pull into the parking lot after 7:40am. At this time your student will have to go through the office to get to class.
In order for the line to run efficiently in the morning, is very important that:
* the student(s) is/are ready to exit the car as soon as you stop,
* each car pulls up as far as it can,
* each student(s) becomes/is independent in getting out of the the car by themselves, and
* if at all possible, the student(s) get out on the curb side (passenger side).
In the afternoons, it is very important that we do not congest the front parking lot. In the case of an emergency cars and emergency vehicles have to be able to get on and off of the campus. We stop cars entering when there is a car at the stop sign. At this time we form the lines on Hamilton Pool Road. Once the cars on campus start moving then the officer will let those on HPR onto the campus. You may notice cars that do come onto campus once the lines are on HPR, please know that these are ONLY for special circumstances, ie. adults working extended care that need to enter, high school students that help out, adults that teach enrichment classes, kids that have doctors appointments etc.
Sincerely,
Principal Kellner

A note from our Counselor, Ms. Trimmer
Happy new year! I'm excited for the semester and looking forward to some fun SEL lessons and activities I've planned. Each class will visit my classroom this month to learn about personal safety. We will talk about safe secrets vs unsafe secrets, safe touch vs unsafe touch, the importance of keeping private parts private, and the importance of talking to our trusted adults. For fourth and fifth graders, this lesson will also include online safety.
Erin's Law, which is part of the Texas Education Code, requires that all public schools implement a prevention-oriented child abuse program to teach students age-appropriate techniques to recognize abuse and tell a trusted adult. Your child will come home with a handout from our lesson that will offer some talking points about what he/she learned. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if there is ever anything I can do for your child.
Ms. Trimmer

Library Reading challenges are meant to encourage independent reading. Allowing students to choose their own books for independent reading is a great start to improving a child’s love of reading. There are many ways to grow reading excitement, but giving students a choice in reading material and how they want to share their reading are great first steps. This challenge is mostly for intrinsic gratification for reading. However, if students want to share their completed log with me in the library in November and again in December, they are welcome to receive a reading bracelet or “fancy bookmark” to acknowledge their efforts.
Have fun!
Mrs. Bingham, BCE Librarian

SPRING 2023 RUN CLUB
Begins Jan 17th/18th
Beginning January 17th or 18th depending on your child’s assigned day, Run Club will begin. On each day the student will meet at the Track at 7:20 am -7:38 am before school (On rainy days we run in the gym). Students are invited to run and record their time and laps. Your child will need to be dressed PE ready.
It is a privilege to come to the Run Club, so student’s behavior and effort must be positive.
We will be training for the mile run in PE and students will run 1 mile each week in PE in addition to their run club miles. Only 70 runners will be accepted in the run club and we will meet from January to Feb for 6 weeks.
Please speak to your child and if they would like to run in the morning please sign them up below.

Upcoming Health TEKS
Happy New Year BCE Families.
Help your child win a sticker in PE by completing the “Media and Health Worksheet''. When students watch T.V. or on the internet, how does the media affect their choices? If students complete the worksheet questions with their parents (only the questions for their grade level) and share the information in class, they win a waterproof decal for their water bottles. The worksheet will be available in P.E. class and/or the parents can print and use the worksheet from this newsletter
Our upcoming P.E. TEKS require Teachers to discuss how different media agents can influence our food choices, health and activity. For example, If I see a new cereal during Saturday morning cartoons and I ask mom to buy it for me. Is it a healthy choice? If I saw a commercial about biking and I got a new bike for Christmas, explain how you spend more time outside exercising. The worksheet is attached for you to print or pick up from PE.
Thank you,
Coach Daniels

4th Grade............12:40 to 1:10

Please visit the Bee Cave website to access the district’s Food and Nutrition (FANS) website to add money to your child’s lunch account, view your child’s purchases, access the daily menu, and to set restrictions for your child’s lunch. It is not permissible for the cafeteria and school staff to restrict your child’s purchases. Please take the time to review the FANS site and establish your child’s lunch account. It is suggested that all students have an account with a few days credit on it in case lunches or money are misplaced or forgotten.
We are still running one lunch line, so if you can send your child with a lunch that can give your child more time to eat. However, please know that your child can stay in the cafeteria to finish eating after the lunch is over if they need to.

A MakerSpace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that all students have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that allow them to make real life connections. For example, within this makerspace our students will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact Melanie Cravey @ craveym@ltisdschools.org and click the following link below to volunteer.
Links for student sign up for maker space will be shared once volunteers have signed up to facilitate the classes.

CAMPUS SECURITY
Safety and security is our top priority. We believe relationships are critical to successful schools, and ultimately, our families and students are the best partners in keeping our campuses safe. Our principals and school administrators investigate every reported tip or threat. We work with law enforcement and take quick and appropriate action, including notifying families, if there is a valid danger on campus.
We ask all of our families and students to please share any information regarding school or student safety by either directly contacting a school staff member or by using the Cavs Who Care Tip Line, our anonymous alert system. As LTISD grows, we will continue to explore and collaborate with other school districts to find new ways to improve safety and security at our campuses.
Standard Response Protocol
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the classroom response to an incident at school. Weather events, fire, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by students, teachers, staff and administration.
LTISD is expanding its safety program to include the Standard Response Protocol. The SRP is based on these five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. In the event of an emergency, the action and appropriate direction will be announced on the PA system.
Students and staff will be trained and the school will practice these drills over the course of the school year.
..........................................................................................................
Absences
Consistent school attendance is critical for the development of your child. When they miss school, we miss them! The entire school day is needed to deliver the full instructional program. Students need to come to school and attend the full day unless they have fever, a communicable disease, or family emergency. Help us communicate the importance of daily attendance to your child and schedule necessary appointments around school hours. When an absence is necessary, report the absence using Smart Tag. For questions regarding attendance concerns, please e-mail our Registrar, Irena Veliaots, at veliaotsi@ltisdschools.org. A note explaining any absence is required upon the student’s return to school.
