STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: LEXI GERLT

Hi, my full name is Alexis Christine Gerlt. My nickname is Lexi! I’m 16 years old and I’m adopted.

What you’ll find different about me is that I’m not funny AT ALL! I’m like a door knob when it comes to jokes. I have always wished to be the funniest person on earth but Jokes are not my thing.

What comes to me naturally is playing the piano. I have played the piano for almost 7 years. When I was 10 that’s when I started playing and taking piano lessons. I pick it up really fast, I’m not saying I’m perfect at it, still needs some work. Many times I have wanted to quit because it was too frustrating but my dad didn’t want me to give up a gift.

Also I love CATS SOOO MUCH! When I was ten, we had to get rid of my cat and I cried for days! Since then, every birthday list and Christmas list I would write "I want a kitten!" And I would nag my dad; “Can we have a cat?” “No” “Now can we get a cat” “NO”! it was always like that until my last birthday (my 16th birthday)!!! Of course, I asked for a cat and guess what - I got ONE!!!!

I also am really into music like punk rock, alternative heavy metal, and alternative rock! I kind of want to be in a band! I’m also quite the reader! I even like to write books!

MYSTERY SPOTLIGHT: WHO AM I???

I grew up in Bothell, WA and am a graduate of Bothell High. When I was younger, I snowshoed on Mt. Rainer, built an igloo and camped. After high school, I attended Edmonds Community College with the vision of majoring in business. After taking a lot of accounting classes, I found myself in a quandary. I found a love for biology when completing a pre-req! In fact the teacher kept saying things like, “this is not really how this process works, we teach the ‘truth’ in microbiology”. I took microbiology and then changed my major to Biology Education. After college, I taught biology and business at Wahluke High School for four years. When I got married, I moved to Arizona and worked at charter schools for 10 years. I moved back to WA to work at Insight School four years ago and have loved every minute of it.

The FIRST STUDENT to guess who I am will receive a special surprise!!!

K12 NATIONAL CLUBS - CHECK IT OUT!!!

http://www.k12.com/k12-student-clubs

National clubs meet online, and include students from across the United States. Clubs will meet online twice a month in November, but only once a month in December and January, due to holidays. Students are welcome to join up to FOUR K12 National Clubs!

Almost all K12 National Clubs are open year-round! The time it takes to hear from a national club after sign-up depends on the timing of the sign-up. Signups are collected every 2 or 3 weeks, so don't worry if you don't hear from the club leader for a week or two!
