A Communication Tool for the Seven Hills Staff
Symposium is THIS Week:
Please Read Carefully:
Location of Program: Gym
No Specials Classes: a schedule has been created to have specials teachers rotate through each grade level to provide a conference time. We appreciate everyone's flexibility. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k00_G7BhyxzeOa9blmzkpDw1xwht-Ws2oU7H_mBuN4g/edit?usp=sharing
Lunches: No change in lunch times. Due to tours and tables in the gym, students will eat in the classroom.
Staff Attire: Red Lighthouse Leader shirt (like the student shirt) and professional pants or skirt - no jeans.
Student Attire: Red Lighthouse Leader shirt (please advertise to students and parents - it was in the parent newsletter last week)
9:30 Arrive and Welcome to 7 Hills! Eaton Sapphires and 7 Hills Pom Team
9:30 - 10:00 Program, student speeches, Pom Team performance, & Kindergarten performance
10:00 - 10:45 Guided Tours

A "Synergizing for Symposium" checklist was shared last week to help everyone prepare for the event...As well as for Open House/Leadership Expo. A few reminders were sent out by the Lighthouse Team last week - these are posted below. The Synergizing for Symposium link is posted here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ECwL2_MP1KiYq3Vpxj7d2vnn2fohNhY4BViAPkOT8mI/edit?usp=sharing
- Note: All staff please take action on the items in the document. We will meet after school on Monday for a brief check-in, then we will synergize to make sure everything is ready!
From Lighthouse Team:
1. Remember to have all of the required LIM items up in one location in your classrooms. (See attached photo)
2. Our beach and water scenes need some clean up. Think about sending students into the halls to staple and repair. (From Blackburn...As I worked this weekend, with noone in the halls...most of the hall and door scenes are looking a little ragged. These need to be cleaned up. If it is beyond repair what can be done to replace?)
3. Please update scoreboard data to reflect the most current information that your grade level has.
4. The old Leader In Me website is going bye-bye very soon! Please make sure you have created a new log in with the new site. It literally takes less than 5 minutes. Please click on the following link: https://www.leaderinme.com/users/sign-up?code=SHES2
- Enter this Registration code in the box provided: SHES2
5. STS Club posters and display for 7Hils Expo and Symposium site visit. I have some pictures of each club, but take pictures and empower a student leader to make a display highlighting your club. This will be a great way for students to show parents and caregivers how we Sharpen our Saws. There is one week to get these finished. Please make sure you are ready...If you have questions, talk to your Lighthouse Team representative or Laura or Kevyn. this is a new opportunity to showcase student leadership and opportunity to find voice...
-See the following link to add pictures and use them to make STS displays: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XbrsvSVQU-Jxpx5R-x3VdTZ47Hy8yleu
Student Practices:
- Campus Tour Practice: We will continue to practice Monday. We will pull tour guides at the end of the day due to Benchmark testing. It is important to note that tours will come in to classes at practice time as well, offering your students another opportunity to practice. If your class is at specials, etc. when they come in, please do not worry. IF we have staff available on Tuesday, the tours will practice on Tuesday.
- Classroom Tour Guides: If you are a host classroom, the tours will be stopping by Monday. The tour guides will hand the guests over to your classroom leaders (Note: this is the most awkward part of the tours. Please talk to your class tour guides about who takes the lead, introducing themselves, etc.). Please make sure they are prepared. Remember the talking points shared in the Synergizing for Symposium document. If your students will not be in class during the tour practice, please make sure you have practiced with them each day. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mnmv1y58QCE1-hmmF1tJPwLGR1_uTygdAi67oNJYp2c/edit?usp=sharing
- Pom Team Practice: We will practice during Habit Huddle on Monday.
- Speech Practice: Students will be pulled to practice throughout the day on Monday.
Note: On Wednesday morning, any staff that does have a homeroom class or small groups will need to help set up in the gym. We cannot set the tables the night before due to basketball practice.
Leadership Expo/Open House:
- Check out the communication shared with you last week regarding Leadership Expo... https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1oJDLCUmcw-Pb82tb9ipFysMH_cOAoH2EErSLgFb8ArU/edit?usp=sharing
- Make sure your students are prepared and their WIG charts and Leadership Notebooks are ready to be shown. This is a mini student led conference opportunity. How embarrassing would it be to have students with incomplete WIG charts, messy Leadership Notebooks, etc. who were not able to speak to their goals. You can use Habit Huddle this week to prepare.
- Make sure your rooms are clean and the halls look ready for guests.
- Make sure all of the tools and resources prepared by LHT and ILT for the event are copied.
- Communicate the event to parents.
- Even though this is designed to be student driven, that does not mean the teacher isn't important. Be prepared to coach students through the student-led conference and explain the Leadership Expo to parents.
- You might consider offering a parent conference sign up sheet for interested parents.
- Open house is a good time to share the MOY student progress letters if you haven't already done so.

Our EL students in grades 2 thru 5 will be administered the TELPAS Listening/Speaking test this week. See the TELPAS Calendar for specific days and times. Therefore, Ms. Goosey and Mrs. Bryan’s schedule will be different. We will come and get our dyslexic groups after we are finished the TELPAS testing for the day.

ALL 5 TELPAS writing samples are due Tuesday, March 3 by 3:00 to be verified by Mrs. Bryan and Ms. Goosey. Remember to initial each box on the back of the Verification Checklist to ensure that each writing collection has met the set criteria. You will begin to rate student writing samples when you return from Spring Break. The student cover sheet and writing samples are secure test materials, please hand them in to us in person. Do NOT put them in our box or lay them on our desk. Thank you!
Habit Huddle Connection:
So, what do you want to be when you grow up? That question may appear a little trite, but think about it for a moment. Are you--right now--who you want to be, what you dreamed you'd be, doing what you always wanted to do? Be honest. Sometimes people find themselves achieving victories that are empty--successes that have come at the expense of things that were far more valuable to them. If your ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step you take gets you to the wrong place faster. Habit 2 is based on imagination--the ability to envision in your mind what you cannot at present see with your eyes. It is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There is a mental (first) creation, and a physical (second) creation. The physical creation follows the mental, just as a building follows a blueprint. If you don't make a conscious effort to visualize who you are and what you want in life, then you empower other people and circumstances to shape you and your life by default. It's about connecting again with your own uniqueness and then defining the personal, moral, and ethical guidelines within which you can most happily express and fulfill yourself.
Spring 2020 Habits at Home Challenge:
Are you ready for some fun?? One of our amazing action teams has created this semester’s Family at Home Connection Activity. We are asking families to take an action shot of their family using each of the 7 habits and having them explain in writing how the habit was used at home. These photos will be sent to the email 7HillsHabits@gmail.com. Our team will print photos and give to the homeroom teacher. Your job will be to ensure that the student has a written explanation and then staple these to the corresponding habit board. We want to make this activity fun and exciting so use habit huddle celebrate the success of habits at home. Take your class when you staple.
7 Hills 7 Habits Home Photo Challenge Directions:
1. Check your box for student flyer
2. Look for pictures in box.
3. Make sure student has writing explanation.
4. Have Students Staple to boards (with supervision)
