TRUE NORTH: SCN FOOTBALL VALUE SYSTEM

Moving into the 2023 season, I wanted to freshen up our Northstar Mentality. Ten years ago, our 2013 class developed the Iron Star Code. Each point on the 5-pointed star is recognized to represent one belief that our program will be built on. Each point on the star is equal to the one before it. The values of Leadership, Investment, Selflessness, Accountability, and Preparation make up our North Star. In the center of the completed stars lies the T.E.A.M. For the past ten seasons and every moment in between, we have remained consistent in our steadfast belief in these five values. They are our "True North". These beliefs will be our compass in all we do as a program on and off the field. Much like the Northstar in maritime days, we will use our "True North" as the compass we will follow in the journey to the elite.

For this reason, we will be renaming our Iron Star Code as the St. Charles North "True North" mentality. I am proud of these words and what they mean. I have seen them transform lives, including my own. I hope you can share in our "True North" words and discuss these values with your son or daughter as much as possible. These behaviors win, and belief must exist in our journey to the elite. As we say, championship behaviors preceded championships. We must commit ourselves to these habits until they become our rituals.

I am passionate about these ideologies. I have spent the past ten years working relentlessly to develop this program and the people who are a part of it. While teaching is my job, coaching is my calling. I want to make this program the best high school athletics program in Illinois. I do not say this to toot my own horn; I am sharing this with you to provide insight into what I envision this program can be. The bottom line is that this program is significant to me, as are all of you. I cannot wait to take on the journey of this coming season.

Message from Coach Pomazak

Stars Family,

Good evening from 30,000 feet! I am writing to you from the airplane on our way home from a fantastic week away in Los Angeles. The week away was exactly what the doctor ordered. Family, fun, and food! I always appreciate the space that vacation brings to my mind. If you can believe it, I often struggle with being able to turn off the program. As I get older, one of my goals is to create a better work-life balance. I am creating boundaries for myself on when I can work and when I need to be present with my family. I am happy to say that this week was a success for me. I kept the computer away and enjoyed countless moments with my wife and daughters. I tell you this not for sympathy but to offer transparency into my life. Coaching has been my calling for the past 25 years; it truly brings me the peace and happiness I need. Each day that I get to coach is a privilege and honor. I feel an enormous responsibility to our community of over 500 parents, players, and staff to deliver the best program experience in Illinois. When that is your goal, it means that every day there is an experience to give, and the standard that I hold to as the program leader is lofty. It is a relentless quest to be the best. I often relate this job to a marathon of sprints. Each day is a sprint to deliver; once that sprint is over, you go to bed and get ready to do it again. For the past 11 years, that has been my life, and at 45 years old, I now believe this old dog can learn a new trick. Why? Why is the coach going to these lengths to explain this? We all have these struggles in one way, shape, or form. I see it with our players, who work relentlessly daily to improve their game. Their dedication is truly outstanding. However, I know there are moments when their tank is low and their mental conditioning is being tested. I see it with our parents. Your unconditional love and support for your sons and daughters is unwavering. However, parenting is a rollercoaster of emotions rising and falling each day. I see it with our staff, who try to balance their teaching and coaching life with the duties of fatherhood. The bottom line is that we are all fighting the most important battle in our life, which is the battle within. We are all trying to become the best version of ourselves. Our program is here to be a support system we can all lean on. The SCN football program is more significant than Friday Nights. It is a place of safety where vulnerability is accepted, and imperfection is the norm.

As we enter the month of July, it is imperative that we refocus, reengage, and recommit to our True North MVP.

Each stakeholder has skin in this game. We are the culture of St. Charles North Football. Culture is a game of simple math.

We can add to our culture by what we say

We can subtract from our culture by projecting negativity.

We can multiply our culture by how much we commit and the level we are willing to commit.

We can divide our culture by purposefully creating divisive conversations and rhetoric within our four walls.

EARN YOUR STRIPES '23

At the end of our June semester we have close(ish) race. Men In Blue took the pole position over SCN U and have not looked back. SCN U has dropped into 4th place with the Trench Warriors nipping at MIB heels. Everyone is talking about the TFT and their meteoric rise up the charts after a Putt Putt Challenge trifecta. Winning score (4 some) , lowest stroke total (jake Furtney ) and most players dress in golf attire including caddies! July is gonna hot and I don't mean the weather. Costume bowling this week is always a treat. Next week is our Selfless Service Week where our Stars hit the streets and create their own philanthropy. Finally NIU week is points jamboree where anything can happen! Stay tuned.

STARS TEAM CAMP WITH 8A POWER HOUSE NEW TRIER

On Thursday our Stars took the bus ride to the north shore and competed in their first of 3 team camps. A huge thank you goes out to the Trevians of New Trier! It was a first class experience all the way. Our Stars came out of the experience as a better unit. We learned how to compete a little more consistently and gained some valuable insight into the fight of this team! It was a great way to end the June semester and provided our staff with a lot of great evaluation film as we move into phase 2 of our summer. During the July semester we will begin to post depth charts, make position changes and align our arrows so that we can enter August with most to all of our chips in place.

ST CHARLES NORTH FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER KICKS OFF TUESDAY JULY 11TH

Every year our program is allowed ONE fundraiser per year. The fundraising portion of the program is honestly not my favorite but it is essential. We do not have multiple buckets to pull from and without a strong fundraising effort from our players, we will simply not be able to give the experience that we want to give year in and year. We are asking each player to take accountability and provide a selfless attitude as they begin the first of our two-prong fundraising plan.

Beginning July 11th we will start our Adrenaline Fundraising Activity. Each player will be given 12 value cards to sell at 30 dollars each. These cards have both local and nonlocal advantages. While there are great deals at some of our favorite restaurants there are also online deals that make the card value at over 500 dollars.

It will be mandatory that all players sell at least 12 cards over the next two weeks. Added incentives will be given to players who sell more. We feel this is an excellent opportunity to attach our vision of connecting the community to the game of football. More details will follow, but please support our Stars with this project. Give them ideas on how to sell, and before we say we cannot let us please find ways to help support this program. Again without a strong effort, the experience will suffer. Thank you for continuing to be the foundation of all that is SCN Football.

URGENT !!! URGENT YOUR HELP NEEDED !!!! 4TH PHASE PARENT GROUP

SCN 4TH PHASE PARENT GROUP

Our resources are depleted, and our stars need your help. We are asking each family to pick up one of the following items below and have their son or daughter bring it in for July. With over 150 players in our program and 3 hours of camp each day it is essential that we keep our athletes nourished and hydrated. Please do your part and donate. We will also be organizing a drop-off date the week of July 10th for bigger orders. Thank you in advance.

OPEN BOOSTERS AND SCN 4TH PHASE POSITIONS MUST GET FILLED.

Our program must be the most represented in all of athletics. Our parents raised over 3,000 dollars for our program this past year because of their volunteering efforts for our boosters. Please consider volunteering for these great opportunities. The boosters group is an all-athletics group that creates opportunities for all sports. Additionally, our 4th Phase desperately needs concessions and other positions filled ASAP. If we do not supply the posts, it will directly impact your child's experience in our program. With out the support of every person, we cannot run the program at the capacity it has been used to. If we do not get the help in the coming weeks, we will have to restructure areas of our program which is not ideal.
