Ferson Creek eNews

December 4, 2020

From the Principal...Kristy McKnight

The Ferson community never ceases to amaze me! Thank you for your patience and support as we work through all the hiccups that come with being a fully remote building. Walking into Ferson this morning and having the internet out in 2/3 of our classrooms was not ideal. Yet all teachers, students, and parents were flexible and went with plan B (or plan C, or maybe even D!). As I have been able to join classes, watch instruction, and observe both students' and teachers' unbelievable effort, I am so proud of the learning that is taking place. While I know this temporary change has not been easy, it has once again showcased the resiliency of the students and the staff.

I hope your weekend is filled with great family time and hopefully some sunshine and fresh air!

Take care,

iReady Diagnostic Testing

Our students began taking their second iReady Diagnostic assessment this week. It is incredibly important that students complete these assessments independently. You can provide encouragement, support, and even reassurance when they come to a question that they don't know the answer to. Please do not read questions to your child or talk through the answers. If they don't know an answer, or what a question is asking, they should guess and move on. The iReady is meant to be an independent assessment, that in turn creates a personalized pathway of instruction for your child. If the test is completed with support, their pathway will not provide the instruction that your child needs. Thank you for your support!

Please click here for a letter regarding the diagnostic and things you can do to support your child as they complete this assessment during remote learning.

Book Checkout During Remote Learning

It is exciting to see so many students taking advantage of book check-out during remote learning! Please don't forget that all students have the ability to check out books from the Ferson Creek LRC. Curbside pick up will be available during the three weeks of Remote Learning so that students still have access to our library books.

Please click here for directions regarding checkout for 3rd - 5th grade students.

Ferson is Thankful!

Thanksgiving festivities will look a little different this year but we want to see how you are celebrating with your family. Send us a photo of what your Thanksgiving looks like. Making a turkey craft? Send us a photo! Or simply write down what you are thankful for and have a parent email a picture to us. We would love to create a Thankful page in our Yearbook this year. We are still accepting Halloween and First Day of School photos as well. You can email Ashley Holdsworth at aholdswo@gmail.com or via wetransfer.com.

Virtual Ferson Family Art Night!

Led by Erin Livermore of All Things Art Studio, you and your family can take part in a virtual winter themed canvas art class on December 15th.

  • Write a note of appreciation to a staff member. You may download and print our notecard template linked here or create a note of your own to share.
