3rd-4th Quarter March 2023
Golden feather Award Winners-Self Awareness
We continue to work on "The Great 8 Skills" in Humble ISD. Most recently, we have been working on self awareness and we had a number of students who did an outstanding job of demonstrating their self awareness skills. The classroom teachers recognized those students with the Golden Feather Award and they celebrated with their Golden Feather Trophy and and ice pop party!
What we're working on this quarter...
- Social Awareness: A child's capacity to interact with others in a way that shows respect for their ideas and behaviors, recognizes her/his impact on them, and uses cooperation and tolerance in social situations.
Upstander Strone Project
After listening to I Am Anne Frank, written by Brad Meltzer and read by a Holocaust survivor, students took time to reflect on the difference between an Upstander and a Bystander . The Upstanders in the community supported families in need by providing shelter, food and even entertainment during the hardships experienced by many during WWII and the Holocaust. Our 5th graders demonstrated their compassion and desire to be upstanders by painting a rock to honor a child who died during the Holocaust and including the name and age of the child they honored on their rock. The rocks will become part of the Kingwood Holocaust Garden of Hope. The Holocaust Remembrance Association hopes to include 1.5 million rocks in this Kingwood garden. We are proud of our students for their contribution to this project and the time they took to reflect upon the need to be an upstander in their community.
