Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and hearing screening has been completed on almost everyone at South River School. If your child had trouble with any part of the screening, you have already been notified. If it was suggested you follow up with your doctor, please email me (jstiles@mpsd.org) with any findings, or have the doctor fill out the paper you received and return it to school. Thank you!
Grade 4 Physical Exams
Thank you to those parents of fourth graders who have submitted an updated physical exam. If you have not already done so, please send in your fourth grade child’s most recent physical in an envelope labeled “for the Nurse.” You may also scan and email it to me at: jstiles@mpsd.org. An updated copy of your child’s most recent physical exam is required to be submitted to the school nurse per DPH in Grades K, 4, 7, and 10.
Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me below.

DId you know that background knowledge and vocabulary are highly correlated with reading comprehension? What this means is that the more knowledge a child has about a topic, the easier it is to assimilate new information on that topic as the child encounters it in text. Also, the less children have to problem solve as they encounter unfamiliar words, the more brain power they can devote to understanding text.
Luckily, even our youngest readers are exposed to sophisticated content and vocabulary through the use of our Geodes decodable texts in grades K-2. At home, you can help your child build knowledge and vocabulary by reading books to/with him on a variety of topics. Remember, just because your child can't decode the words, doesn't mean you can't read to her and have meaningful conversations about the content. You can also use sophisticated language in conversation with your children, and read materials to them/ encourage them to read materials with sophisticated language (books, newspapers, magazines, comic books, etc).

SEPAC Meeting
Navigating Aspen & Canvas for Parents and Caregivers
Please join the Marshfield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) for an interactive tutorial designed to benefit all parents and caregivers in Marshfield.
What: Navigating Aspen & Canvas for Parents and Caregivers
When: Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:30 pm
Where: Presentation Center at Marshfield High School (Enter through the gym/auditorium doors and follow signs)
Who: For Parents and Caregivers (not students)
This will be an in-person, Bring-Your-Own Laptop*, interactive event. We will begin with a short presentation and then will proceed with an interactive session on the computers to help everyone navigate Aspen and Canvas. These platforms are used more extensively and differently as the students progress through the grades so this will also help you prepare for those moving up to a new school.
* Aspen Accounts: Please verify that you have a working Aspen login prior to the event. If you need assistance, email Aspen@mpsd.org by October 16th to request your login information. A limited number of Chromebooks will be available to borrow.
For planning purposes, please click here to register.
This event is sponsored by the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). All of our events are open to everyone and this presentation in particular will prove helpful to all parents and caregivers throughout the district. We hope you can make it.
