COVID-19 diagnosis at Mountain View
A staff member at Mountain View Elementary has been diagnosed with COVID-19 after contracting the virus outside of our school building. With the intent of transparency and keeping our Mountain View Community updated, here is a copy of a letter sent last night to families of students presently in the building and staff: English Spanish
No Mountain View students or additional staff members are involved in contract tracing procedures because they were never in close contact with this individual at any time.
The health and well-being of all students and staff is our highest priority. We are following the procedures outlined by Albemarle County and the CDC in these situations.
Anti-Racism and Equity Work
Abigail Amoako Kayser and Brian Kayser hosted another family Zoom night last Wednesday, October 7th. We spent the evening learning about allyship. Allyship is “An active, consistent, and ongoing practice of unlearning and re-evaluating in which a person in a position of privilege and power seeks to operate in solidarity with a targeted group.” If you’d like to learn more, here is a link to Abigail and Brian’s presentation: Introduction to Allyship. Please mark your calendars for our next Family Zoom on November 14 at 6:00pm.
Kindness and Spirit Week: October 19-22
The school counseling theme for the month of October is kindness in connection with National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Each school counseling lesson during the month of October will be focused on kindness, empathy and inclusion. During the week of October 19-22, Mountain View will celebrate Kindness and Spirit Week. Your child is invited to participate by wearing the following:
Monday, October 19th: “Jam out in your jammies.” Wear your favorite pair of pajamas. School dress code applies.
Tuesday, October 20th: “Keep calm and tie dye-on.” Wear your favorite tie-dye shirt, head-band, shoe laces, etc.
Wednesday, October 21st: “Unity day.” All students are encouraged to wear ORANGE to stand in solidarity with kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Thursday, October 22nd: “Uni-team day.” Wear your favorite team shirt or jersey.
Toy Lift - Please complete online survey complete by November 3 in order to participate
It’s hard to believe we are talking about holidays already. However, many organizations like Toy Lift are starting early to adjust for current situations.
If your family needs assistance from the Toy Lift, you must complete the voucher on-line. The deadline to submit your form on-line is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Here is the link to the online voucher:
English Form: https://bit.ly/32Co8QT
Spanish Form: https://bit.ly/30Pka64
Some things to keep in mind:
Toy Lift will not accept bike requests this year.
According to Toy Lift, the earlier you apply the better chance they have of being able to meet your child’s wish list request.
If you have children at Burley Middle School and Mountain View, please consider selecting one school as your pick-up location for all of your children. Picking up at one location will help eliminate multiple pick-up stops for you and your family.
If you have questions or concerns, please text Donalee Rooks at 434-964-6733. Thank you!
