Update from the classroom

Primer students have been busy, busy bees! We have been writing and reading for a purpose. We completed our virtual valentine project and received our virtual valentine from Ms. Denton's class. We also drafted, revised and edited our Primer play invitations. The invitations should arrive in the mail shortly.

In the next two weeks, we will focus on some of our favorite book books. We will extend our school campaign of Favorite Book Week with World Read Aloud Day on February 24 and connect with a class outside of ESD to discuss our favorite books.

An update on Raz-Kids and nightly reading, as you can see the excitement of Raz-Kids is fading. Most students are using other methods to complete their nightly reading, which is fine. The one point I want to highlight is that each child should complete 15 minutes of reading aloud for homework. Now, you can subtract activities that require reading aloud like reciting play lines, reading the nightly passage from the 15 minutes of required time. Students may count rereading books too! Thank you for your help with ensuring that this happens.

Academic Objectives

Reading: Retelling and reading responses with favorite book week

Writing: Publishing play riddles and questions from homework and reading responses with favorite books.

Phonics: Students will be assessed in their phonics patterns in reading and writing this week. We will then realign the curriculum to match student needs for the following week.

Math: Students will be assessed this week in data analysis, filling up a 120s chart and using the chart to add or subtract ten. The week of Feb. 22 we will move to measurement.

Science: Project groundhog focus on weather and Engineers Week Feb. 22-26.
