3. What do you enjoy most about the Westview community?
There are some pretty cool people working in this building and of course I enjoy the students. Special shout out to Erica Lodholtz, Ronda Mckenzie, Troy, Angela Bennett, Arvira, Prunima, Nadia Rodela, Jessica Thorpe, and Cohen Perry for being extra cool and welcoming this year 😄
4. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it - metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions - what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. It could be someone else's quote or any quotes you think of often or live your life by. Why would you put it on a billboard today?
The man in the area quote is a fabulous quote that I enjoy. It's a long one, but in short "It's not the critic who counts...The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena."

I teach STEM physics and physics in astronomy.

This is my 2nd year at Westview.
3. What do you enjoy most about the Westview community?
I enjoy our diversity. I feel visible and heard. I hope everybody feel like that.

Westview Theatre Presents London Suite - Friday and Saturday
Live theatre is back! We are opening this season with Neil Simon’s London Suite. This hilarious show has four separate scenes that take place in one hotel room. An irritated author ready to put and end to his problem, an overbearing mother eager to spend time with her family, proud divorcees meeting after many years, and a couple in town who have lost their Wimbledon tickets. The students have been working incredibly hard and deserve a supportive audience.

Cat Cave Volunteers Needed
Volunteers,
We are looking for volunteers to start staffing the Cat Cave (clothing and family need donation center) at Westview. We would like to get as many days/lunches covered as possible per week.
This year, Lunch Volunteer shifts are from:
- 10:45 to 11:25
- 12:20 to 1:00
On the day of volunteering, you will need to:
- Sign in at the office
- Be Masked
- Be Healthy
- Be Welcoming
Please fill out the following Google Form to help us assess our capacity for volunteers:
Anyone that would like to volunteer will need to:
- Be an approved BSD volunteer in the BSD My Impact Volunteer System
- Be assigned to volunteer at Westview in the BSD My Impact Volunteer System

New Supplemental Superintendent Search Survey
Thank you to everyone who completed the survey developed by the consultant assisting the School Board in the search for a new superintendent. We appreciate your time! However, we did receive feedback that some people found that survey to be too long, confusing and cumbersome.
We want to ensure that everyone is able to participate who wants to provide feedback. Therefore, we've created a supplemental survey that can be completed in less than 2 minutes. It also provides space for you to include any other information that you feel relevant.
The supplemental survey is open until Tuesday, November 30 at 5 p.m. Again, thank you for your participation!

Message to Families:
All BSD students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch at school for the entire 2021-2022 without applying. If you have received an approval letter for the 2021-2022 school year, you do not need to apply. If you have not received an approval letter and you wish to be considered for other benefits, such as electronic device coverage, athletic fees, testing fees, you must apply for Meal Benefits. Go to www.schoolcafe.com to apply online, or pick up a paper application in the front office.

NO School Next Week - Thanksgiving Week Schedule Change
October 29, 2021
Dear BSD Community,
I hope that this message finds you well and into the swing of the school year. While I’m thrilled to have our students back in physical school buildings, I realize that this year — like last year — is not your typical school year. I applaud our staff members and students for their efforts to follow safety protocols — from social distancing to seat assignments to masking. Our low COVID-19 numbers are a testament to their commitment to mitigate the spread.
However, our school district continues to face challenges. BSD has been impacted by a nationwide labor shortage. Currently, we’re down 250-300 substitute teachers and 400 classified substitutes, as well as many full-time positions. This shortage is putting a considerable strain on our entire system. Mechanics and dispatchers are driving buses on a daily basis; teachers are forgoing planning time to fill in for absent colleagues; principals are spending their days in classrooms as teachers. Our staff is overextended and in need of some relief.
For that reason, we’re altering the school schedule in late November:
- Monday, November 22: No school for students; professional development day for licensed staff; work day for classified staff (Previously, this day was an instructional day.)
- Tuesday, November 23: No school for students or staff (Previously, this day was an instructional day.)
- Wednesday, November 24-Friday, November 26: No school
- Monday, November 29: Regular school day for students and staff; A/Odd Day (Previously, this day was a no student/staff professional day.)
The result of the calendar change is one less instructional day in favor of a Wellness Day for our students and staff. While this change may pose a challenge for some, I hope that you will agree that a focus on wellness is needed at this time.

Beaverton School District Antiracist Vision Statement
The BSD School Board unanimously voted to adopt an Antiracist Vision Statement. Informed by the work of the Beaverton Multicultural Educator Community (BMEC) and the 40-member Equitable Policies Task Force made up of students, family, community members and staff, the vision statement will guide our implementation of our Every Student Belongs Policy (ACB) and help ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming learning spaces for all.
Antiracist Vision Statement
Every student and employee has the right to learn and work in a safe and inclusive school environment that honors their race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and national origin.
Beaverton School District owns that our student outcomes currently point to our part in perpetuating institutional racism, and we commit to actions that address the current culture that is leading to these outcomes. Schools are critical in providing safe and creative opportunities for people to learn about different cultural and racial identities, have conversations about pressing issues and correct injustice wherever it exists. We commit to eliminating the structures, policies and practices that perpetuate inequities in our schools and in our community.
Beaverton School District will authentically engage each student, family and staff member to build connection, uplift understanding and truly value the diversity of our school communities. We will work to dismantle policies and systems that perpetuate institutional racism and barriers to education and other school-related activities. Students and families of color will see themselves represented in curriculum, materials, instruction, classrooms and all school activities in our district. - Provide ongoing anti-bias and antiracist education to every staff member.
- Enforce Every Student Belongs procedures to prevent, interrupt and stop racist and biased incidents among students and between staff and students or community members.
- Create an inclusive learning community that honors, respects, represents, engages and is accessible to learners from all communities.
- Create permanent district funding and resources to promote equitable policies, structures and practices for BIPOC students and other marginalized groups.
- Implement policies, procedures and professional development to confront and eliminate conscious and unconscious racism and review these policies and procedures regularly to ensure we are meeting our commitments.
